LineageOS is currently installed on 1.5M Android devices
It might be worth to switch to GrapheneOS if you have Pixel phones: https://grapheneos.org/
It is a more serious project than LineageOS in the sense that they take security very seriously and they take their development more professionally too. There are no disadvantages to using GrapheneOS compared to LineageOS.
You can see a comparison here: https://eylenburg.github.io/android_comparison.htm

Is removing spyware with adb as good (or almost) as installing a privacy oriented custom rom ?
- This list has some good info about each app. I guess it's the same information you will find at the Universal Android Debloater (which I'm using to remove apps).

Should I disable RCS?
There are many methods. One of the is you should install adb on windows and use it with command prompt but i havent looked into it bc. it seems difficult and i found a better method. I used this. The packages are already collected in lists with descriptions. It only works on linux though so you need a live usb. Theres a documentation in readme.md. Make sure to check the code before doing anything.

Google collects 20 times more telemetry from Android devices than Apple from iOS
You dont necessarile need to buy a fairphone to have a custom rom. Hell you dont even need a custom rom. By uninstalling or blocking default apps, modifying privacy settings turning off features you get an acceptably private inviornment (for those people eho dont really care). If other people care enugh to learn basic program file text replacent, deleting or adding '#'s before package entries in the text learn how to use a live linux usb they can debloat with ADB by using this tool. If they reached a certain level by degoogling system wise by switching to newpipe, osmand and access their email from a broswer or from a pc they may even buy a Pixel phone perhaps at a fraction of the cost of the new android or apple flagships and flash graphene os on it. They wont suffer major inconvinience bacouse they will no longer need those services or functions that they would use otherwise or they found an alternative. As a final note i dont really trust roms like /e/ or iodé. The only 3 i trust is graphene, lineage and calyx. Librem phone and pinephones could be great but its really extreme and not cheap at all since they dont get money from data and other stuff like oems. So they arent for the regular user.
