Do any shippers or receivers ask for the paperwork back after months past by?
I have pics from 2003 on my photos.google.com account that is free with a gmail address and is auto uploaded every time I take a pic. You're just solving a problem that already has a simple solution.
photos.google.com login with your gmail account.

Almost lost all my vacation photos due to this stupid feature of Google photos
So if backup is turned on on your device and you delete a photo from your photos.google.com, that photo not only is delete from your Google drive account but also is deleted from your pixel device. I almost lost all my vacation photos due to this unbelievably stupid feature. When i delete a photo from photo.google.com due to 10 million notifications that my google account storage is full it does not mean I want that photo to be deleted from my god damn pixel with hundreds of gigabytes of free storage. Thanks god i had already sent the photos to my gf through telegram.
The confusion may have arisen because Google Photos allows you to delete photos from your Pixel, but keep them accessible from photos.google.com.

Need to copy photos from Pixel 3A to PC (Screen Broken)
Did you not have it set up to sync your photos to your Google account using the Photos app? Check photos.google.com to see if they're there.

Need more practical methods to move files from Android to laptop
After a road trip, or taking photos for a project, etc, I go to photos.google.com, select, download, and delete photos, and put them into folders on my computer, added them to web pages or whatever. (folders like "2003 June trip to Santa Fe").

Uploading photos from the drive app: I did exactly as they asked, and it's not working
Assuming you followed the instructions from photos.google.com (rather than in the mobile app, since I cannot find this in the Android app at least), under Utilities > Backup photos from your computer, which instructs you to download the GDrive app and then select a folder on your computer to backup to GDrive, it is working correctly. That is, you will backup the folder of photos to GDrive, and it will NOT be visible in GPhotos, either the app or on the web at photos.google.com. Google is confusing you because they (annoyingly) use the word "backup" to mean different things in different places in GPhotos. Really, the intention of the Utilities backup is to get you to use GDrive, totally independently from GPhotos (i.e. they want you to use all their apps). And, legitimately, it is providing a *second* "backup" of your files.
But... here's the hickup: google photos at photos.google.com show NO SIGN of the newly uploaded photos. In other words: it deleted the photos from the drive, recognized them as photos/videos when the format was compatible (jpg, etc, but not the weird formats, which is FINE), but they do NOT show under the photos web or app interface.

Ask HN: What is your approach for managing personal digital assets?
I religiously use Google contacts. It's the simplest way to keep people contacts up to date on Android.
I archive all important documents in specific folders by subject and date. This is backed up to back blaze with restic. https://restic.net/
I use https://ente.io for pictures. I convinced my wife to use it, and she agreed to auto share her photos so I don't nag her for copies. It had simple import from Facebook and Google.
I also keep extensive journals, which really helps to tie it all together. I can basically grep for hangouts, conversations, etc.
I also separate work journal from personal, and have essentially a journal for each project. https://jodavaho.io/tags/bullet-journal.html for how.
I religiously use Google calendar for all plans, you can easily search it for past events to get dates.
I also use monicahq for some notes about things I should remember about people but the habit never stuck.

Duplicity
+1 for restic. I tried various solutions and restic is the best by far. So fast, so reliable.
After Borg, I switched to Restic:
AFAIK, the only difference is that Restic doesn't require Restic installed on the remote server, so you can efficiently backup to things like S3 or FTP. Other than that, both are fantastic.
https://apps.gnome.org/DejaDup/ is using this as backend. It also has a experimental option to use https://github.com/restic/restic instead of duplicity.

The Drive Stats of Backblaze Storage Pods
I'm curious, too. I know they've had some issues in the past:
https://github.com/restic/restic/issues/3268#issuecomment-78...
On the other hand, I tested around 15,000 backups last year (multiple hourly backups, daily tests) and they all passed.
I use B2 as the backend for my personal backups using restic (which I would highly recommend https://github.com/restic/restic). I don't have a ton of data to backup, so even with hourly backups (restic only backs up when there are changes) I have ~100GB and it runs me a whopping $0.60/month. I almost feel guilty when I get the bill. But the minute I need to pick a storage platform in a professional context I know what my first choice will be.
(I am _not_ affiliated with Backblaze in anyway. Just a happy user)

Bandcamp support is faltering – maybe you should download your music now
More importantly you have the possibility to get lossless music files.
If you download from bandcamp then currently only in flac and backup the results with programs like restic [1] just as you should back up all other data.
You should always make a second copy fo any further changes if you rewrite tags or encode to other formats like mp3.
