Where's the "go update" script?
As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, there is golang.org/dl, but like you've said, you can just download the tarball for a release, untar it and you're good to go. The download info page is available as json, so I scripted downloading the latest tarball a while ago: https://github.com/foxygoat/scripts/blob/master/getgo.
