I remember when that one was what a lot of people were looking into, before the Gitea fork happened. It's odd to see how this has happened yet again, but I guess is a good thing that it's even possible in the first place, if there are indeed differing values and goals?

This reminds me of Gogs [0], where the original author refused a lot of good ideas and improvements, eventually leading to a fork [1] that's now a lot more popular and active than the original.

You might get more consistent results with a fork, most of which have already fixed this issue. Some popular ones are yt-dlp/yt-dlp, blackjack4494/youtube-dlc and animelover1984/youtube-dl. Please note though these might not be drop-in replacements

I’ve been looking into both youtube-dlc (or is it yt-dlc?) and youtube-dlp. Dlc looks to be a fork of dl, and dlp a fork of dlc (dl -> dlc -> dlp)

Ah, yeah, now they do frequent updates. But here's a fork that I switched to for a while because the maintainers of the original youtube-dl were slacking off. :) https://github.com/blackjack4494/youtube-dlc
I can't believe the level of entitlement that comment exhibits. :)
My attitude (a bit tongue in cheek) is probably why many open source authors abandon their products. Too much work, no thanks, lots of bitching.
