Ask HN: What GNOME Shell extensions do you use?
I'm currently using 4 extensions.
system-monitor (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/120/system-monitor/). It is nice to see my CPU and memory usage at a glance with some history. I don't look too often but it can be good for understanding how builds are progressing, check that my software is utilizing parallelism well and see when things are in an infinite loop gobbling RAM.
Clipboard History (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4839/clipboard-histor...)
I can't live without a clipboard manager, this seems to do a decent job.
Bing Wallpaper (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1262/bing-wallpaper-c...)
I don't see my wallpaper often but when I open the menu or log in it is nice to have a new beautiful picture.
AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-supp...)
I like icons in my toolbar.
- Tray icons looking bad

Using extensions to improve Gnome workflow
- Pop Shell for i3-like tiling (fuck stacking) _remove from store (?)_- Workspace indicator by open apps: I need to know what's in my dynamic workspaces, not just a simple indicator or number _little ad, developed by me_- AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support for tray icons (background apps)

What are your must-have extensions?
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-support/ – it's literally must have (and IMO should be preinstalled by all user-friendly distros) since some major apps cannot work without it.

Xfce is undefeatable
No. Either you're terribly confused what systray icons are or you just forgot that you use https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-support/

Inspired by the way of Mac OS
Yeah no... macOS doesn't have a font that looks uncomfortably tall like that. Use Inter at 9pt font size if you really want the macOS look.

Now you also need to download and install 'Inter' font. Go here: https://rsms.me/inter/ And download it, install it. We will use it later.

Tachyons – A CSS Toolkit
It’d be nice if something like Inter[0], which is specifically designed for onscreen/UI usage, were bundled with each OS and could be assumed to be present, making it unnecessary to include Arial or Helvetica in one’s stack.

GNOME May Reduce Number of Nautilus' Sidebar Entries
If you are really trying to mimic macOS then you should try Inter. Current version is 3.19 but the much improved version 4.0 is coming out very soon (you can download the latest beta here). This font is pretty much an open-source alternative to Apple's SF fonts and they render at the correct size on all platforms. With a little tweaking of the font rendering, you can make it look almost identical to macOS.
What font is that? If you're trying to mimic macOS, you should consider Inter (SF Pro look-alike) at 9pt font size (standard size used in Windows and macOS).

macOS Like Fonts on Manjaro/Arch Linux
Nice guide, I hadn't seen the trick with matching and replacing specific fonts (e.g. -apple-system).
One thing I'd tweak for my own usage though is to use Inter[0] in place of TeX Gyre Heros for the sans-serif font. Inter, as its name suggests, is designed specifically for usage as a screen/UI font and has metrics extremely similar to those of San Francisco, which is the font that Apple has been using for its UIs for several years now. Inter also has broad language support with a wider variety of weights, so there's practically no situation in which it comes up lacking.

Fresh gnome 44 setup
No, stay away from that outdated version. Always get Inter from the source. Latest version is 3.19 but there's also a 4.0 Beta available which is what I'm using right now.

Is there REALLY good Helvetica replacement?
Inter Display (even though it’s in beta). It’s not identical, but matters where it counts!
