According to ergoplatform.org 4.43% of the maximum supply was diverted away from miners performing proof of work and to a centralized third ("private") party.
The Ergo Foundation funds are directed to devs contributing on building its core functionalities. You can check github open issue bounties for that matter. And is already being discussed a release of all the funds transaction history in grand detail to increase transparency.
