Best TWM for beginner?
If you're using Gnome, one alternative I'd offer is gTile. It's a Gnome extension that gets you some decent tiling features, including aesthetic gaps.

gTile stopped working with the last update
gTile v49 (released yesterday) introduces a breaking change from 0-indexed tile co-ordinates to 1-indexed, and this will break any custom co-ordinates (yes, it's kinda annoying). You can read about it in the release notes (v50 was released soon after this so be sure to read the v49 notes).

What’s your workstation look like?
I recently switched my main desk to a 49" curved ultra-wide 32:9 (G9 Odyssey 240Hz) and am a total convert. I like it so much better than dual monitors. I generally use it as functionally 3 monitors, the "center" being about half the total screen space, and the two side areas being 1/4 of the total. For windows I use Fancy Zones and for Linux I use gTile to easily move apps and windows to their desired positions. I have yet to find a good solution for Mac. I use a high-end KVM switch to handle the 5120x1440 resolution.

Using libnotify for reminders
Depends... Is your goal to write an entire application to do this for you? You can use notify-send which is already linked with libnotify to do that, or look at a pre-existing application like https://github.com/hovancik/stretchly that might be more like what you're wanting to do...

stretchly is a free open-source cross-platform app that automatically forces you to take breaks, get a glass of water, stand up, look into the distance, move your head, etc. I use it every day and it’s awesome.
