Not sure which macOS version you’re running but you can try your luck with Free Sidecar. It enables unsupported Macs and iPads to also use Sidecar. It’s worked for me in the past, problem was I was trying to enable support on an iPad Air 2 and Sidecar only works with an Apple Pencil (IPA2 does not support Pencil) so it did not work regardless. But it may be able to help your situation.

Any way to get Sidecar/Universal Control to work with an iPad Air Gen 2?
My Macbook meets all of the requirements to run Sidecar and Universal Control perfectly fine, but my iPad is just one generation too old. I feel like it should still be capable of supporting Sidecar since I've already found what looks to be a working method to run Sidecar on much older Macs and iPads ("Free Sidecar" https://github.com/ben-z/free-sidecar). This method would not work for me though, I believe because my Macbook is updated to Monterey and this was designed a while ago for Catalina. If my iPad can go as far as running Universal Control, that would be even better.

Desperate for Sidecar to work HELP IF POSSIBLE!! plz&thnx!!
Also, when following this guide found in a different post (https://github.com/ben-z/free-sidecar), I try the first step to make a backup file for Sidecar, by running this in Terminal: cp /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SidecarCore.framework/Versions/A/SidecarCore ~/Downloads/SidecarCore.bak
- Using Universal Control and Sidecar at the same time..

Just Ordered M1 Mac Mini w 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD
I'll leave this here https://github.com/ben-z/free-sidecar, you can always try it before upgrading to a better iPad.
- [Question] is there any tweak that turns your older iPad 5th generation into a duel monitor? I’m on iOS 14.4 so I don’t have the native iPad functionality that enables this and all the other options cost money in the App Store.

how do i get sidecar to work? open core big sur
-ben-z's free-sidecar ONLY IF your SMBIOS doesn't support Sidecar natively. I don't know for sure but if it can run Big Sur odds are it can run Sidecar. The method covered in this git readme might not work though if Big Sur changed codesigning.

I created Deskreen. This is a free open source desktop app that makes any device with a web browser a second screen for your computer. Built with ElectronJS, React and other web technologies.
Nice work, but check this out: https://github.com/ben-z/free-sidecar
