[iOS][2023.22.0] If third party apps are effectively banned then when will the official app stop overheating my phone and crashing?
...or we could not whitelist branch.io and prevent reddit from using it to track us.

Referral link in app subscription
Is there anyone with experience on building referral programs with in app subscription? Or does know some examples? I would like to give for example the referee a 1 year free pro subscription if he gets 3 person to subscribe for a one year pro subscription or maybe 10 persons with a free tier. This should happen cross platform, maybe with the help of tools like revenue cat. And I would like that all of these offers would be self renewables. If possible I would like to not implement an app coin system to solve this problem. I have also read that deep linking with tools like branch.io could help but I have not found a practical tutorial on this topic. I have read this article https://www.revenuecat.com/blog/growth/how-to-build-a-referral-program-for-mobile-apps/ but it is not completely clear.

- Seems Optus has banned branchmetrics in Australia. Anyone have insights into what caused this rift?

How to fix native crashes?
yep, it was branch.io, I got rid of it
-
What do you put here?
have to sign up with like branch.io or some other service that does link tracking or you can leave it blank. if you have an app or something you can use those sdks to track the full ad->download->signup->etc flow to determine the quality of your campaign audience

QNAP branch.io calls showing on Pi-Hole
I have found on my Pi-Hole logs many calls to branch.io (tracking tool) from my NAS.

Tracking Affiliate Sign Ups Through App
Fingers crossed this makes sense, any help at all would be appreciated. Happy to use third-party applications such as branch.io (but I do not believe this would really work past the App Store / Play Store barrier?)

Here's a video of the "Branch Metrics" company attempting to track my phone and data through the Reddit app. 289,563 attempts in the last 4 hours.
https://branch.io is who they are, seems tons of apps use them

Should I be able to launch TestFlight app clip from invocation url?
Have published app and app clip to TestFlight, set up AASA file on server, and entitlements in Xcode. It passes validation on branch.io tool, URL passes validation in App Store Connect. But unable to launch app from invocation URL (after first installing on device via TestFlight). Also this is an AR app that uses app code tracking, and it is unable to decode the app clip code currently. Is this expected behaviour until the app is actually live, or should this be working in TestFlight?

Ask HN: Which tools are the best for internet safety for kids?
I've tried hosted Pi-Hole and AdGuard Home. They are good as long as I'm around to fix stuffs. Then I tested something which can be global (home) and also for individual devices -- Control-D, NextDNS, and Adguard DNS. All of them works pretty well. If I really have to choose, then it would be in the order of NextDNS > Control-D > AdGuard DNS. Affiliated with none, and have decided to subscribe to all three to further test them for this year.

Runs on your OpenWrt box: AdGuard Home is network-wide blocking ads and tracking
Okay but NextDNS' own homepage says it "blocks ads and trackers on websites and in apps" - https://nextdns.io

Ask HN: Unblockable Google Search Ads?
I first used Safari on Windows around 2006. Put me off forever.
You just need Firefox and the extensions that mean ads are never seen.

AdGuard Home + Tailscale = Erase Ads on the Go
I'm using NextDNS which can be integrated into TailScale MagicDNS. It works seamlessly. You may need to pay if you have a high usage rate. I pay for the Pro version but that's less than $30 CAD a year. I did have in house Raspberry PI and Pi-Hole DNS but it was a lot of work.

Google Chrome will limit ad blockers starting June 2024
pretty much to the same effect of a pihole, yet you can get up and running in minutes. You can then configure wherever you please: your browser, your laptop, your phone, or even your router.

How to stop myself from wasting hours on reels and YouTube shorts?
Check out NextDNS. You can set recreation time and block things like YouTube and Instagram at all times of the day except during your recreation time. Mine for instance is between 6pm and 9pm. At all other times, I can have it blocked. They market this feature to parents, which I think is short sighted because it’s great for productivity and works much more effectively at the network level compared to blocking apps which, at least on iOS, are limited in their capabilities.

23.7.6 - Unbound won’t start
Update: So I can see in https://github.com/nextdns/nextdns/wiki that the nextdns CLI I set up in opnsense is DOH, but I swear this wouldn’t work the first time I installed it, hence why I set up DOT. So confused now lol!
