Tailscale Funnel
I'm fine with companies making profit off of protocols, as long as their code is open source like https://github.com/firezone/firezone or https://github.com/zerotier/ZeroTierOne Tailscale seems great now, but its risky to trust their closed source for this type of service.

Which vpn server setup do you use? Container / no Container, GUI / CLI?
When I look into vpn servers, I find easy installers, which directly work on linux (e.g. angristan/wireguard-install) or also vpns, which operate from docker (like kylemanna/docker-openvpn). Then there are options, where multiple things are included, like firezone or this. I am not so sure how well they integrate with my reverse proxy and some seem to be much more complicated than others.

Wireguard on host or in Docker container?
Try Wirehole, runs wireguard + pihole in containers so you have the added bonus of ad blocking. Just run the docker-compose file and you're good to go.

Wirehole can't connect to any network after vpn connects.
I have set up the Wirehole Docker stack following the github page https://github.com/IAmStoxe/wirehole. I got it up and running and connected my phone to the vpn successfully. I run into the issue where I lose internet access and also can't connect to anything on my local network after connecting to the vpn. I have tried a few different things and nothing has fixed my issue so far. I forked the wirehole repo https://github.com/graybound/wirehole and made some changes in hopes of fixing the issue but to no avail. Does anyone know anything about Wirehole or Wireguard and is willing to help? I would've posted more troubleshooting steps but I didn't want to make this super long.

So what's your favorite ad blocker?
uBlock Origin locally, as well as a Wirehole instance hosted on a remote VPS providing a Wireguard VPN with DNS level adblocking via PiHole.

Docker (Compose): PiHole + Wireguard
I've checked https://github.com/IAmStoxe/wirehole, which seems like a solution that gives your a fireguard VPN with PiHole (+ Unbound, which I don't really know) instead of having a PiHole solution for my network with the addition of an optional VPN/Wireguard to connect to it.
