Firefly III: A free and open source personal finance manager
Creation is done by running migrations [1] (invoked via Laravel's artisan command line). Using the database is done via Models[2].

Not SQL, but check out the contents of the database folder. For example:

An open-source alternative to QuickBooks
Has anyone tried https://github.com/firefly-iii/firefly-iii? It seems to be under active development but it always makes me nervous when the vast majority of updates come from one person. (What happens to the project when that person isn’t working on it anymore?)

The End of the Accounting Search
Any HN users out there with experience with Firefly III (https://github.com/firefly-iii/firefly-iii)? Sounds interesting.

Why I prefer a routing config file to Controller annotations
Take a somewhat random pic in a larger project -- https://github.com/firefly-iii/firefly-iii/blob/main/routes/api.php -- in 30 seconds you can tell how the app is organized, the general approach and style, and basically everything it does....even what it is without looking first. (I don't know if perhaps "debug:router --show-controllers" is commonly dumped somewhere for similar utility without having to actually load things up to mess with it?)

Ledger
I’ve been using beancount for almost 1.5 years now, and other than having to explicitly open accounts I love it! I use the fava UI to have all the nice modern visuals: https://beancount.github.io/fava/

Recommendations for easy financial management
I used Beancount + Fava for a web UI for years. It stores everything in plaintext files, but the downside is you either have to manually enter everything or probably write a script to import csv/qfx from your bank(s).

Trying to get started...
I suggest you take a look at fava. I don't think its data entry is good for you but the data visualization is pretty great.

Business budgeting (something like Firefly III)
Take a look over plain text accounting move. I'm currently using fava(demo) + beancount. The initial learning curve is a bit steeper but it has it's perks.

30-Day Challenge #9: Track all spending! (September, 2022)
I use this amazing, open-source personal accounting tool called beancount. You can pair this with fava to get a fairly advanced UI on top of your data. There's a fair amount of entry learning curve, especially if you don't code. I manually enter my transactions from credit card statements every ~3 months, so I'm doing high precision tracking. I struggle a little bit with accounting for cash transactions, but those are so neglibile that it doesn't quite matter in the grand scheme of things.
