FFmpeg, libfdk_aac, issue locking, and issue deletion
Well, everyone except ffmpeg-for-homebridge. The ffmpeg binary produced actually yells about how it "is not legally redistributable" as I raised on https://github.com/homebridge/ffmpeg-for-homebridge/issues/52, but our esteemed gentleman from (checks profile) North Dakota u/donavanbecker cites FDK's license about how it is redistributable under such and such terms. Well my dear friend, it is redistributable on its own, but not when you link it with GPL parts!

no audio on cameras
but i cannot get audio, i have already installed ffmpeg ( https://github.com/homebridge/ffmpeg-for-homebridge ), because i think i need libfdk-aac-dev .
- Ring Doorbell Live Stream Not working
- Is it possible to install HomeBridge OS on an old Windows PC? I know it’s possible on a RPI device but wondering about PC. Or help with ffmpeg pre-compiled with audio support (libfdk-aac) support for PC

Hardware accelerated ffmpeg/camera encoding on Raspberry Pi 4 (homebridge-nest-cam)
It looks like they removed h264_omx support from recent Rasbian builds. I tried using h264_v4l2m2m which is supposed to be the replacement with ffmpeg-for-homebridge through https://github.com/Brandawg93/homebridge-nest-cam but I get no video. Anyone have this working?
- ffmpeg working but still need libfdk_aac for ring camera

Making a baby cam with the Raspberry Pi HQ Cam
I figured out that, for some reason, Homebridge wants to use libfdk_aac as the audio codec for the audio stream. Alas, the supplied FFmpeg only has the (inferior) native AAC encoder installed. No worries, you have to install ffmpeg-for-homebridge (sudo curl -Lf# https://github.com/homebridge/ffmpeg-for-homebridge/releases/latest/download/ffmpeg-raspbian-armv6l.tar.gz | sudo tar xzf - -C / --no-same-owner), which comes with libfdk_aac support compiled.

(StarLAN) Personal Home Lab
CameraUI (https://github.com/seydx/camera.ui) Opensource NVR software for cameras, built on modern progressive web app (PWA) architecture. Beautiful software, unfortunately the original dev has gone AWOL but the latest release is stable and easy to use for recording and viewing cameras.

Ask HN: IP cameras that don't require an app or internet
For my apartment, I run rtsp-simple-server[1] on my home server and use Raspberry Pis with generic USB webcams running ffmpeg to stream the audio/video to the RTSP server. Then I run camera.ui[2] separately for a nicer interface on top of all the cameras, HomeKit integration, etc.
The only downside hardware-wise is I don't get any indoor IR night vision with these, which some of the nicer "smart home" account-locked ones do.
It's honestly not too bad to set up if you run [1] and [2] in Docker. I've done disaster recovery scenarios of my home infra where I straight up disconnect the modem's uplink and everything works without any issues.

Traffic cameras for apple tv
In the past I’ve played around with using Scrypted or Camera.UI to bring non-HomeKit IP cameras into HomeKit. I think HomeAssistant and HomeBridge both have basic modules which would do this too (ffmpeg at bare minimum). A docker image running on a RaspberryPi or Synology is probably good enough.
