Ledger
I’ve been using beancount for almost 1.5 years now, and other than having to explicitly open accounts I love it! I use the fava UI to have all the nice modern visuals: https://beancount.github.io/fava/

Recommendations for easy financial management
I used Beancount + Fava for a web UI for years. It stores everything in plaintext files, but the downside is you either have to manually enter everything or probably write a script to import csv/qfx from your bank(s).

Trying to get started...
I suggest you take a look at fava. I don't think its data entry is good for you but the data visualization is pretty great.

Business budgeting (something like Firefly III)
Take a look over plain text accounting move. I'm currently using fava(demo) + beancount. The initial learning curve is a bit steeper but it has it's perks.

30-Day Challenge #9: Track all spending! (September, 2022)
I use this amazing, open-source personal accounting tool called beancount. You can pair this with fava to get a fairly advanced UI on top of your data. There's a fair amount of entry learning curve, especially if you don't code. I manually enter my transactions from credit card statements every ~3 months, so I'm doing high precision tracking. I struggle a little bit with accounting for cash transactions, but those are so neglibile that it doesn't quite matter in the grand scheme of things.

Self-hosted financial accounting software
I've been liking Invoice Ninja (https://invoiceninja.com/), though I don't know about asset depreciation though.

How to set up Invoice Ninja under docker using Docker Compose
This lets MariaDB get all set up. Next we need to set the correct permissions for the volumes, this is a known issue that the devs don't seem interested in fixing:

What are your thoughts on projects using the Elastic License?
Doing a quick GitHub search reveals quite a few projects using the ELv2 license, including Airbyte and InvoiceNinja. Elastic (the company) aside, what are your thoughts on the Elastic License v2? Does your employer allow projects with an ELv2 license? Do you consider it open source? I understand that it's not OSI approved, but wondering where people stand when it comes to commercial open source software.

Ask HN: What are good self hosted time tracking software for consultants?
I went back and forth between a couple of them -- Kimai2 and InvoiceNinja, back when Ninja was still on v4. Ultimately, every time tracking system does things a little differently, and after switching back and forth again, I've settled back on InvoiceNinja v5 (https://invoiceninja.com/).
If all you need is time tracking, Kimai2 and several others will do the job just fine. But I've found in mine line of work that it's useful to be able to produce formal quotes and invoices for tracking purposes. Ninja lets you do all of that, no extensions or modules required, and all of the components are integrated with each other (quotes can be converted to invoices, projects, or both, invoicing can be done by task or by project, expenses can be included in invoices, etc.) and it also features a very nice automated emailing system for client invoice/quote notifications and even a guest frontend for them to log into.
So all in all, I've found InvoiceNinja to be extremely useful and can't recommend it enough.
