Open source projects to look at for best practices?
Not a small one, but a real-life one, the exposure-notifications-server is usually what I like to recommend, keep in mind that you probably need a bit of Go knowledge and context before looking at it so perhaps it isn't the best introductory project to look at; however I recommend you to bookmark it for future reference.

Is there a good example of an open source non-trivial (DB connection, authentication, authorization, data validation, tests, etc...) Go API?
Google's Exposure Notification Reference Serve is a real life example of what you're asking for.

Which is just a massive misunderstanding of how the contact tracing API works, even if you do believe that it was "surreptitiously installed ... on users [sic] phones".

What was the purpose for all the Covid trackers and what did it actually accomplish?
https://www.google.com/covid19/exposurenotifications/ (“The Exposure Notifications System was introduced in an update to Google Play Services. This update did not automatically turn on Exposure Notifications or enable any Exposure Notifications functionality. Exposure Notifications only works if you decide to opt-in.”) Android 6.0 and above.

I didn't think of it until I saw this tweet. Create an app in hurry which increases the chances of vulnerability. Force the public to install the application. It becomes a gateway for your snoopy malwares to attack. Perfect.

This was such a useless app for citizens. But not for government. Recently putted condition by SC on Umar Khalid bail clears that, it's a surveillance app.
As much as i hate this government, stop criticising the app. There is no alternative for contact tracing (If you have a better approach do discuss). Almost Every country is using a similar way. At Least our data is being not sent to google and then being transferred to our government. I know you guys like proof otherwise you'll declare me a bhakt so you can check out all the links. Also the app's code is open source and I think that's enough transparency. I saw someone arguing that their server side code is not open Source so in that way you should stop using all technology cause half the things you use don't even have a single line of code public. Coming to the point that it's not notifying you of any covid cases in the area because you are the problem, i saw you guys upvoting those comments who proudly said that they are not using the app. You can hate anything you feel like, cause that's what democracy is but stop contributing in promoting negligence. Cause this government has already neglected its citizens, All we can do now is at least as citizens do our best so that everyone else is safe. Remember you'll never know the real pain, unless you feel it. Jiske saath hota hai usko hi pata chalta hai. (I pray that you all never have to go through any pain of seeing a loved one pass away)
