Next big Eth upgrade
Dencun upgrade with EIP4844 is likely later this year, which will bring lower cost Layer 2 transactions. Follow the readiness of EIP4844: https://github.com/ethereum/pm/blob/master/Breakout-Room/4844-readiness-checklist.md Prague + E starname upgrade is probably 2024, possibly focused on EOF, then followed by a Verkle tree focused upgrade, but none of this has been decided.

ETH Questions (no flame pls, just trying to learn)
Proto-Danksharding (aka EIP-4844) is the first implementation of sharding. From the latest core dev calls, it did not make it into the next update ("Shanghai" Q1/Q2 2023) but should be priority for the next one ("Cancun"). This does not mean dev works on 4844 is stopped but the delivery of staking withdrawals have priority and there is no delay due to testing protodank sharding. see notes. You can track the status here (mostly stillWIP).

PS the rocket pool github is a treasure trove for how to build a complex network of smart contracts.
- Is there a way to stake ETH on Coinbase while keeping security of ETH on Trezor?

How to: Start compounding Crypto by Staking, Lending or Liquidity Providing!
Staking for you: Example is Ethereum since it ATM is complex to stake by yourself, platforms such as Lido (stake via ledger), Binance and Coinbase provides staking options (Careful, your funds will typically be locked until Eth 2.0 launch). Soon Staking-pools (Rocketpool) will go live, making staking a lot more easy.

ETH staking is now available directly from your Ledger hardware wallet
Now if I had to offer help to people who only got into crypto in 2021, then they can try something like Rocketpool. It hasn't launched on mainnet yet, but when it does you can stake as little as 0.01 ETH.
You might find it easier to stake using a service such as https://www.rocketpool.net
