Naev – open-source game about space exploration, trade and combat
Sounds very similar to Endless Sky[1] - another open source game drawing on the old Escape Velocity games. I really enjoyed both Endless Sky and the Escape Velocity games, so I'll have to check out Naev at some point!

6 free games updated in the last 60 days
#2 - Endless Sky - ALSO inspired by Escape Velocity, but IMO this is more polished Escape Velocity clone and could reasonably be called the modern successor. EXCELLENT space trade/piracy/combat and definitely take some good strategy to get far into the game.
- Im looking to try open source games, what are some good ones?

this looks so much like endless sky it hurts. at least it costs just as much now lol
It looks like the license used by ES allows comercial use https://github.com/endless-sky/endless-sky/blob/master/license.txt

What is your favorite open source Linux game? Mine is Wideland (Best way to describe is the way Settlers 3 should have been)
I used to love tactical RPGs, but as I've aged I don't have the patience for them. I really wanted to play Battle of Wesnoth (https://www.wesnoth.org/), but it was not to be. Then I found this gem and it scratched my space sim itch, https://endless-sky.github.io/.

Been stuck in a rut lately with gaming and life lol, what game should I play?
Try Endless Sky for PC (download for PC and there’s an android build). It has a little over 100 hrs of story content and a lot of customization. You can optimize a small fleet (or one ship) or create a death ball fleet.

Odd control glitch, V 0.10
This is because of mouse control. A bug fix for this was just merged this past week.
This should do it https://github.com/endless-sky/endless-sky/pull/8620

The Pale Beyond sold 10% of copies on Linux
They wouldn't write a game for Linux. They'd write a portable game that compiles for Linux, Mac, and Windows, just like typical open-source games except with a higher budget.

OpenRA – Classic strategy games rebuilt for the modern era
You can import those from ISOs: https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/wiki/Game-Content but the campaign is not complete afaik as it needs to be re-built in OpenRA: https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/issues/4989 (I think this is the related ticket)

Any way to play on a MacBook Pro?
Alternatively OpenRA has a bunch of C&C inspired mods: https://www.openra.net I think this way is the easiest way to get a C&C like experience on a M1 Mac right now.
- Any games you guys want me to try using the new porting kit?
-
Well it’s happened again…
Open source is the way https://www.openra.net/
There are two options for the current times: Use the old version to continue playing online: https://cnc.community/ Use the community version that is remastered to play: https://www.openra.net/

PC Ports, Decompilations, Remakes, Demakes, Fan Games, Conversion Mods, Texture Packs!
As a side note, Openra is an open source implementation of the original C&C Red alert / tiberium / dune games. With a native linux version. However I I haven't had time to try it on deck, and haven't found any videos online confirming that it works, but it very well should, if anyone would like to try it and report back.
