Ask HN: How to build site with payment, subscriptions, user login, registration
I am currently working on a serverless solution that covers everything you mentioned above and is a direct alternative and upgrade to WordPress.
It's built with full-stack Next.js, and the frontend is the backend, and the backend is the frontend; it's all the same. React server components have eliminated the need to separate the frontend from the backend into separate domains, and the frontend essentially securely talks directly to the database which eliminates extra network round trips and vulnerable backend API routes.
Built with Next.js, Postgres, TipTap, Tailwind, and Auth.js.
Compatible with Vercel, Neon, Supabase, Firebase, Cloudflare R2, etc.
What do you think? Is this a solution you might consider over your current WordPress domain?

The {{MEETUP_FRIENDLY_NAME}} is coming up today
Yeah I received a similar email as well.
YC has a funky hodgepodge of React on Rails for their website, and it could use a major update considering they’re the leading tech incubator.
I emailed Dang about it, and he suggested that I build a product that solves this issue instead.
I ended up building a prototype on top of Docusaurus, and received a ton of developer feedback.
We’ve been working on it for about 6 months consistently now, and we’ve made huge progress on a simple CMS and content framework that would solve all of YC’s issues such as this accidental newsletter blast.
My goal with this project is to upgrade the YC website, as well as Paul Graham’s.
What do you’all think?

Ask HN: How do you organize yourself as a solo founder
My ADHD meds, coffee, GitHub Issues and Discussions, and using a simple ‘todo.txt’ file in my local box.
For content creation, I created this little React based Wordpress alternative that is free to use and 100% open source: https://github.com/elegantframework/elegant-cli
For emails, I use ConvertKit to collect email signups and send out updates to my subscribers.

How to Compete with Patreon
Would anyone be interested in a self hosted version of what Patreon offers for creators?
I have been working on a free Wordpress alternative that is built with React, and removes the guard rails and burdens for creators that WP creates.
https://github.com/elegantframework/elegant-cli
I have had requests to include Twitch like features such as tipping, subscriptions, and power ups.
I started planning out these features to get them into the development pipeline and I realized that some of these features are the value that Patreon creates.
Would developers/creators be interested in having subscription tiers, tips, power ups, rewards, etc, on their own website alongside their content?
I am currently working with a local creator who recently switched over to us; and we are piloting ways to level up his content using his Patreon account.
But as the author of the article mentioned, this creator goes by a stage name when he’s connecting with fans.

Ask HN: What's the coolest physical thing you've made?
Haha yeah, this is my tech safe space lol..
The career path hasn’t been so bad. Applied my understanding of electrons to computer science, and have launched a number of apps and services since.
Currently working on a side project that’s a WordPress alternative built with Next.js and Tailwind :)

Good flash emulator for walfas?
A true emulator would be something like Ruffle or Lightspark. Ruffle I know doesn't work well with Walfas last time I checked. I don't know about Lightspark.

Flash game to Html5 converter
lightspark, a browser plugin written in C++. It's a work in progress, not every flash content will work. Modern mainstream browsers don't support running it within a page, so flash content needs to be run in a standalone lightspark app, or in some lesser known browsers.

How and where do I tell CMake where my C/CXX compiler is?
I'm trying to install lightspark on my computer, and it hinges on launching a shell script that mainly executes a CMake command. when I try ./build.sh (the name of the shell script), I get a bunch of lines of errors. The first one I think is major is CMake Error at /usr/share/cmake-3.23/Modules/CMakeTestCCompiler.cmake:69 (message): The C compiler "/usr/bin/cc" is not able to compile a simple test program. This makes me think it tries to direct to some sort of default C Compiler or C program to compile, then doesn't work as I have in some place failed to clarify what C/CXX compiler I'm using. Additionally, at the end of the errors I get Tell CMake where to find the compiler by setting either the environment variable "CXX" or the CMake cache entry CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER to the full path to the compiler, or to the compiler name if it is in the PATH. With this, I tried to find some place to put my compiler path, in the Lightspark repo itself and in the CMake files, and I've been unable to find anything. The manual seems to go more over options for the CMake command itself as opposed to setting things up beforehand; I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. I'm more or less at the end of my rope for this specific issue, help would be appreciated. Thank you

What "legacy" software are you still forced to use in 2022 that you wish would die?
I'm having alot of fun with this post actually. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some alternative or workaround for whatever you guys need to run. For example, instead of the clunky Java, we have this. Instead of Flash, try this

I know flash is dead, but is there a safe extension that will allow me to listen to these submissions from somethingawful.com again? i'm on a nostalgia kick and these came from a simpler time. I just want to hear them again.
