2/16/24 Wyze Security Incident Update
I finally gave up trying to use the mini hacks to make RTSP work reliably. I ended up using Wyze Bridge [0] instead, and it has been far more stable. Using Frigate for the web UI. It doesn't make for a local-only solution, but I don't use my cameras to record anything that would bother me if other people saw it.

- How to setup & selfhost cameras so they are blocked network access (Wyze cameras specifically) and using something Like Frigate?

Are there good open source CCTV mobile apps? I want to replace my Wyze cameras with a self-hosted alternative, but I still want to have a good way to access it from my phone
No worries, I used Wyze Bridge, there’s no need to flash a firmware it just works with any stock Wyze firmware.

Reddit AMA - 5/9/2023
There have been several community developed projects for the wyze cams like WyzeHacks, wz_mini_hacks, and docker-wyze-bridge, however, it seems as though each project is slowly getting killed off with every new product and firmware release.
WYZE decided against RTSP implementation after the experimental Betas. However, you can get RTSP plus a myriad other features on v2 and v3 via docker-wyze-bridge or wz_mini_hacks. If your firmware version is beyond the version required, you can downgrade it by flashing an older version -- Firmware Downgrade Instructions

Record whole days worth of video to cloud?
Depending on which cam model(s), you can achieve it with docker-wyze-bridge or wz_mini_hacks

Looking for an alternative
Another diy option is frigate. Although it won’t work with the v3 pro because the pro doesn’t support rtsp. Actually I just checked and docker-wyze-bridge does support the pro so you could run that along with frigate to manage your wyze cams.

The privacy loophole in your doorbell
I also have only HSV cameras or Ubiquiti ones for this reason. Everything I care about is stored on-site or in the cloud with end-to-end encryption, no privacy or surveillance state enablement concerns.
There's a great HomeBridge plugin which enables HomeKit Secure Video on my UniFi Protect cameras: https://github.com/hjdhjd/homebridge-unifi-protect

Housebreak-in happened, all ubiquiti is gone
For the plug-in ? There’s the repository.

G4 Doorbell > Homekit > Apple TV
I have Homebridge running on a tiny VM. I then use the Homebridge-Unifi-Protect plugin. All of this works independently of my hub (which is Hubitat), although I have a plugin that allows Homebridge to "see" the various Zwave/Zigbee/Lutron stuff I have configured in my hub.

UniFi Protect - Upload to cloud on motion detection?
Can't do it with Ubiquiti alone. You can do it with third-party stuff. For example, I use Homebridge with this plugin. That enables all the cameras with HomeKit Secure Video, and then you can set HomeKit to do the upload on motion. There are similar plugins for other set ups. Since you enable RTSP for all the cameras then the options are pretty limitless. So yeah, it's annoying there isn't a first-party solution, but it's definitely possible with a little extra kit/software.
It was added a few months ago. You don't need to do anything since it's enabled by default now. You can read more here but basically just install the plugin and then all the cameras appear as fully HKSV compatible in HomeKit and you can use the Home app to turn on things like motion detection, upload to iCloud, and facial recognition.
- Can the protect app on Apple TV / Android TV keep streams up indefinitely or will they timeout?

Homekit Secure Video for (almost) any RTSP capable camera
Currently using https://github.com/hjdhjd/homebridge-unifi-protect and it’s working well. If I understand the main benefit is gaining hsv to store in icloud?
