docker-adminer VS TablePlus

However... I find this a little cumbersome for smooth development, so I much prefer to use Adminer, which as you may have guessed by now, can be spun up in it's very own container. The setup is similar to how we set up the MariaDB container and you can check out the official docs for the details should you want to set it up in the terminal too. The only problem with doing this is that you must set up a named network and connect both the MariaDB container and the Adminer container to it so that they can communicate. I did it a few times just to see how it was, and it's a lot of work so I'll just briefly explain the part of creating a network, because you will see later that there is a much easier way to achieve the same results even if doing it all manually is far more educational.

Like to run the docker image Adminer which is a full-featured database management tool written in PHP(think phpMyAdmin).

To really learn and get easy feedback use your fav db docker image, postgres, mysql(percona) or sqlite(alpine) with adminer and some test data(insert.sql) in a git repo pushed to gitlab/github.

I'm using Table Plus to connect to the RDS Postgres database, you could use any Postgres Client.

This is great, especially to introduce new devs to models. I use (and love) TablePlus (https://tableplus.com/) which has a diagram generator plugin that does the same!

Tools like TablePlus, DBeaver, or HeidiSQL provide visual query building interfaces. While not performance analysis tools per se, they can help you build and understand complex queries more easily.

TablePlus (https://tableplus.com/) is my current goto - even has a nice iOS app for on the run queries. I have fond memories of Sequel Pro and this app scratches that itch.

Starting in 2017, TablePlus is the newbie on the list, and its modern and simple UI reflects it. It supports most relational databases and some NoSQL ones. When they just started, they only supported macOS, but it is now available on Windows, Linux, and iOS (!). It is not open-source, but the roadmap is open and anyone can open an issue on their GitHub Issue Tracker. TablePlus has two plans: a free tier (has no limit on trial time) and a paid subscription model (license) with extended features.

DBngin also happens to be made by the company behind my favorite database GUI tool, TablePlus. If you use TablePlus, you can click on the arrow next to the "Start/Stop" button and open the database right in TablePlus.

I would recommend TablePlus, the free version has annoying limitations (how many tabs you can open at the same time) but it’s more than enough if you’re just getting started. One of the best developer tools that I’ve ever bought
