Open Source Diablo 1 engine - DevilutionX 1.5.0 released
BTW I decided to look if they fixed the dupe bug and what the deal was a while ago. Turns out it was really small fix. https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX/commit/1ee9eee711b5f7ed83846870e8e83f9b79f56278

Diablo like games
https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX Port of Diablo 1 with QOL improvements and controller support. Works great on retroid 3 plus. You need some files from the PC version that you can buy on GOG.

Diablo 1 (1996) Fallen One - Well, only the Sword & Shield one via some Nose-Size Mockup Testing with PaintDotNet, might do other Fallen Ones including Spear and Brute variants very sooner or later maybe 🥸
I might suggest recommend playing Belzebub (D1 HD Mod), or Tchernobog which is a new WIP-meaning-Developer-Alpha version of BB 2.0 or 3.0 it seems; or, The Hell (1, or 2, or 3) Mod(s), or DevilutionX, which only lets you play regular Diablo1 and Hellfire (optional D1 expansion) instead of BB/TCH and/or TH-1-or-2-or-3 mods on modern systems (like Windows 10 until Late 2025, W1-which-is-idk-new-W10, newer Macs, etc.) afterwards it seems. :-)

Syncthing: A continuous file synchronization program
Not sure if this is exactly what you're describing but I noticed the open-source Diablo engine DevilitionX has Zerotier built in to allow online multiplayer sessions.
https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX/wiki/Multiplayer#...
I thought it was interesting way for an open-source game to provide a way to find other players without relying on paid dedicated servers.

Use D3DMetal on Wine 8.10 Staging
Hi, I followed this guide of u/Gcenx https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/issues/420 and applied on wine 8.10 staging (this version https://github.com/Gcenx/macOS_Wine_builds/releases/tag/8.10) but it seems like it doesn't work I always get a stub error. My question is: I need to do something else or D3DMetal simply doesn't work on newer wine version

Best option for running older, non-intense games (Win and 32-bit)
Otherwise I'd start on a per-game basis with wine, and if that doesn't work out then I would try crossover mac, which is similar but sometimes has better compatibility (and is relatively expensive). If those solutions don't work you can try Parallels (also relatively expensive), but personally I feel that solutions involving Parallels are too far gone to be practical.

Moving from windows to MacOS, about the alternative programs
better yet you can package notepad++ as a normal macOS app with Wineskin Winery, crossover is not needed here

steam 32 bit gaming
CrossOver uses a modified version of Wine to let you install .exes into separate .apps. It can boot certain games that Parallels can't, but sometimes it can really chug. Parallels creates a virtual machine of ARM Windows, meaning you have to boot the virtual machine to run any apps. And then Wineskin just uses plain ol' Wine to create .apps, much like Crossover but perhaps less streamlined. It also has less compatibility, especially for more graphically demanding games. Porting Kit is another version of Wineskin, but with a lot of the nitty-gritty solved for you.

New Version of Heroic Games Launcher allows you to download Wine-Crossover from it's interface
same principles still apply either way, you can just install gcenx's wineskin (and then steam) to play old valve games.
