Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Please Don't Force Dark Mode on Users
Instead of writing this shortsighted article, just do like those of us who are forced to endure light mode, and install [Dark Reader](https://darkreader.org) (that also does light mode).
-
Ask HN: Will HN ever have a dark mode?
I prefer sites not to implement a custom dark mode and instead to make sure their styles invert well, less work for devs, more consistency for me.

By far my favorite extension is Dark Reader - no need to rely on every website to implement a dark mode

Ask HN: Does anyone know the idiot decided gray txt on white bg was a good ideea
I totally forgot about the atrocious default HN theme. Yeah that's unreasonable, unreadable. A low-contrast light theme is literally equivalent to shining a flashlight in your eyes. Only unreasonable people do that to others (e.g. the police).
If you use Firefox, I recommend the Dark Reader[1] extension for taking care of all the websites that insist on destroying your eyes.

Ask HN: Are there web-of-trust style online communities?
> you don't need any keys for trust, you can imagine a centralized system ...
I guess part of the essence of what I was trying to describe was that it's non-centralized. Otherwise, you have to trust some entity to unilaterally behave well, now and forever. But fair point; something like this could be implemented in someone else's walled garden. I wouldn't trust it though :p
Since you mentioned JS overlays... One thing that is somewhat similar is using RES[1] on reddit. When you upvote/downvote a person's post, it keeps track of a total +/- count for each username, and displays it next to it in the UI. This isn't quite trust, but it is a kind of "my opinion of this user, gathered over time" overlay... There's also no notion of sharing this info with others.

- Oh great, they redesigned reddit so it has a smaller display font.

Weekly Random Discussion Thread for 12/4/23 - 12/10/23
Have you tried old reddit with the RES extension? I'm not a fan of the way comments appear without the extension, but the extension boosts readability significantly. I can't stand reddit's design without it.
-
A silver spoon with "top" part?
Not a setting but RES plus old reddit is fantastic.
-
Well Reddit, this is awkward
It's a giant step backwards in site design. Discuit wastes an incredible amount of screen space in making the site look pretty. Scroll down a bit and you'll see that more than half of your screen is empty and there is very little submissions displayed. Look at https://old.reddit.com/ and see the difference between the two. (Or add Reddit Enhancement Suite https://redditenhancementsuite.com/ for an even better experience), Old Reddit is vastly better. People are not using Discuit, likely as a result of the site design.
- Rant: odio la interfaz.

Is there any way to filter reddit so that any posts including the words "Taylor Swift" get immediately deleted and |I don't have to see them?
Use RES and filter by keyword.
