Ask HN: Hackable Personal Database?
I'm looking for the same. Open source, self hosted, and end-to-end encrypted.
I haven't found anything that really does all of this, but it seems like Cryptpad[0] and Peergos[1] are viable platforms upon which something like this could be built.
Except for encryption, Atomic Data[2] seems like a really cool platform to build this on.

Proton launches its own version of Google Docs
I see that they claim all of their apps and libraries are open source[0]. But they only link to the OpenPGP libraries they're using. Is this actually open source? Following the "Open Source" footer link[1], here they only link to the ProtonMail Github account with nothing mentioning ProtonDrive.
And if it is actually open source, I'd love to see a comparison to CryptPad[2]
> which is why we’ve made all our apps and encryption libraries open source

Browse Self-Hosted Software
In my frustration with MS Office, I gave it a chance and searched for MS Office alternatives ... and found https://github.com/cryptpad/cryptpad ! Looks quite nice. Maybe I should set that up on a server.

Ask HN: What Underrated Open Source Project Deserves More Recognition?
I discovered these 3 amazing projects recently:

Edit This Blog Post
I work for XWiki SAS. Two products we develop have it:
- XWiki, a extensible wiki platform, experimentally [1] but soon to be fully supported
- CryptPad [2], an end-to-end encrypted collaborative platform. And actually, CryptPad was accidentally born as a first attempt to have this feature in XWiki.

Google Docs adds tracking to links in document exports
Hey, very happy to see you so enthusiastic!
I'll be sure to transmit your feedback to the CryptPad team.
I'm not an expert myself so while I might know some stuff, it'd be better to talk to them directly.
Come say hello on the Matrix #cryptpad-general channel [1], don't hesitate to open issues on the bug tracker, and to browse the CryptPad's website [2].

PicoCalc
Somewhat random, but spreadsheets continued to evolve after VisiCalc (obviously).
Here is one by the inventor of VisiCalc, Dan Bricklin, on github: https://github.com/DanBricklin/socialcalc
Audrey Tang (who happens to currently serve as the Minister of Digital Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan)) created the Node.js port of SocialCalc, EtherCalc: https://github.com/audreyt/ethercalc
Audrey made a fascinating write up of SocialCalc for The Architecture of Open Source Applications https://aosabook.org/en/v1/socialcalc.html

France stops deploying Office365 and Google Docs in schools: Linux & Open Source news
if you need office stuff ON CLOUD then no idea there are several random ones like https://github.com/audreyt/ethercalc (demo on top right the website works fine and is multi-user collab) and there are libreoffice ones that work in cloud too, though using them in browser never really made sense to anything I've seen. I've never been to any office or consulted anywhere that multi-user actually helped anyone.

Looking for project purchase list tracking tool
I think there's several possible solutions: * No-code/low-code database platforms (e.g., NocoDB) * Personal finance manager (e.g., Firefly III) * Spreadsheets (e.g., CryptPad for a full office suite or Ethercalc) * Task management systems (e.g., Vikunja)
