Free (CC and other) audio samples of real instruments
Musical Artifacts has tonnes of soundbanks in many formats covering many many instruments from strings to exotic percussion and everything in between, most of it creative commons, some no copyright. You'll find probably everything you need there, and you can also contribute by uploading anything you end up creating!

Why do some soundfont (sf2) files work on LMMS, but not FL Studio (and vice versa)?
For example, I have a soundfont called "alex_gm.sf2" (obtained from https://musical-artifacts.com/)

Soundfont Dilemma
I'm getting my soundfonts from musical-artifacts.com. Such a shame that most of the download links don't work anymore.
-
Anyone have any good soundfonts/instruments/plugins?
Musical Artifacts has a lot of good free soundfonts https://musical-artifacts.com/
-
Are there any good retro/SNES effects for free?
Go to Musical Artifacts they have a great selection of soundfonts, just search what you are looking for
-
Any Rompler wave libraries?
The sites linked in my previous post provide free wav files, if you're looking for free soundfonts Musical Artifacts is the place to go, and some of their soundfonts are built from General Midi instruments, video games, etc.
-
What soundfont is used in this track? Does anyone know?
Soundfonts aren't particularly popular anymore, so I'd wager it can be found on one of the very few sites that still hosts them, such as Musical Artifacts. But I wouldn't expect anyone to recognize the specific soundfont used in this song.

[OFFER] Can someone be a collaborative musician and composes tracks for my Touhou fangame, Touhou Tenkijo?
There are a lot of chiptune soundfonts on Musical Artifacts. If you do MIDI music, then soundfonts that support chiptune-like sounds is teh go-to choice for chiptune-ish sounds.
- What sound libraries were used in the 1990s for soundtracks? at that time they sold sample pack "cinematic" or simply "soundtrack" with specific products for that genre as it happens today or they used generic orchestral samples for akai, roland etc. samplers?

A few questions about music production on linux
Incidentally, I'd never heard of virustotal so took a look and put the musical-artifacts.com URL in, and only 1 of 79 had not tagged it as clean. Yandex Safebrowsing were the ones who tagged it as malicious, stating "script for mining cryptocurrencies has been discovered on this site. When you visit such websites, your device may work slowly and heat up, power consumption may increase and the battery may drain faster." Sounds like a temporary hack to me. I'd personally download stuff from the site.
