I created SmartContract UI - A quick and easy way to interact with blockchain's data
4 projects | dev.to | 3 Jan 2022
I choose NextJS because I really love React and Typescript! For the UI, I picked Material-UI library to quickly build a friendly interface To handle the data easily, I choose Immer for state data management, and localForage for browser storage. I prefer (EthersJS)[https://docs.ethers.io/v5/] over Web3JS when interacting with the smart contracts & wallets because it's more flexible.
Why IndexedDB is slow and what to use instead

Alternatively, there's localForage.

IndexedDB API is low-level and may seem a bit daunting to use to some. For this reason, libraries such as localForage, dexie.js, ZangoDB, PouchDB, idb, idb-keyval, JsStore and lovefield provide a simpler API that makes IndexedDB more programmer-friendly.

How we built PrivaNote
4 projects | dev.to | 27 Jan 2021
After scaffolding our application we needed to ensure it's offline first. That means we should be able to use it without an internet connection and without Portabella. For this we leveraged the localForage library. It tries to use IndexedDB and then falls back to LocalStorage if the browser doesn't have it.
Using Next.js to create a browser extension (Chrome & Firefox)
1 project | dev.to | 26 Jan 2021
My latest venture has been PrivaNote (https://privanote.xyz). It's a simple, offline first and end-to-end encrypted note taking application. Behind the scenes it stores data in IndexedDB (gracefully falls back to LocalStorage if that's unavailable thanks to the LocalForage library) and if you enable the end-to-end encrypted sync it leverages Portabella (https://portabella.io) for storage. A separate post will be coming soon with more details on how I wrote this but it's also open source if you want to take a look at the code.

Yeah, localstorage sucks for many reasons. A great alternative which is asynchronous and lets you use any kind of value you want is LocalForage.
What are some alternatives?
Dexie.js - A Minimalistic Wrapper for IndexedDB
store.js - Cross-browser storage for all use cases, used across the web.
svelte-local-storage-store - Adds pub/sub to local storage.
cross-storage - Cross domain local storage, with permissions
jStorage - jStorage is a simple key/value database to store data on browser side
lawnchair.js - A lightweight clientside JSON document store,
WatermelonDB - 🍉 Reactive & asynchronous database for powerful React and React Native apps ⚡️
