There’s some stuff I’d tweak on this project but it has some more advanced concepts you can check out. If you want to play around with something similar (several updates since this project) and get past the boilerplate you can check out this project.

If you’re having trouble getting started backend wise, I made a tool that can scaffold some boilerplate for you. You can also check out projects like Jason or ardalis’s clean architecture projects. Here’s one that’s a little dated but still good.

If you’re interested, something like this is a more built out project I built a while back. It’s not done and I’d change several things looking back, but it gives you an idea. If you want to try something similar you can scaffold out an api with this tool, but there are other good projects you can reference as well!

I’ve been building out an OSS tool that scaffolds web api boilerplate for about two years now and I’ve learned a lot throughout the process. I wanted to take an opportunity to really dog food a DDD like flow with it and came up with the sandbox project for an Accessioning model within a LIMS (essentially intake for lab orders) since I have some background there.

Lots of resources out there. You can scaffold a vertically sliced ddd project with this tool. Here’s a slightly modded example from what it produces.

I don’t think there’s one singular right way to make it good. Personally, I’ve found vertical slice architecture and DDD to encourage a very maintainable codebase. I have this project that I’ve been building and iterating on with what I’ve found works well for me.

A little over a year ago I decided to take my template project a step further and started building a tool called Craftsman with the vision that I could describe my API (and additional entities as my project grows) with a yaml or json file and scaffold out all my boilerplate. It's worth noting that these aren’t the source of truth for your code, but just help get the boilerplate into your project.

Also, I did have someone submit a ticket about having issues with an Azure op by using the old model, so that was another motivator.

I've made something pretty similar, and in my first version I was using the same approach as you, using all these csharp based builders you got going on.

If you do want a .NET IdP then you could look into OpenIddict but will require some hands on work, at a minimum authorisation controllers. If you're looking for something more out of the box OrchardCore's OpenId module might be better for you.

Also, the OAuth bit is very cool!! Do you plan to support OpenIddict it’s a free federated identity server.

That's for Identity Server 5 (Duende) Identity Server 4 is still free, the downside though is it's not supported anymore so there's no new updates coming. For alternatives look at openiddict for something close to IS4, or host something like Keycloak on docker and talk to it via it's APIs just like how you'd do it when talking to 3rd party Auth providers.

Short answer: IdentityServer is no longer FOSS, so if that's critical, consider using https://github.com/openiddict/openiddict-core. Not as turn-key, but you'll see in their readme that OrchardCore has a bit more bells-and-whistles implementation that might appeal. Both projects are also FOSS with standard open-source licenses.
