  • How do I get my own pool running?

With P2Pool you would be part of a larger distributed pool. Essentially running your own node on a Leger pool. I need to make some time to install my own. https://github.com/jtoomim/p2pool/

Need a full node coin wallet on something then you can point your mining software at that node. Most of the guides you find are for BTC they will get you close. Solo mining is cool for the educational project but without a lot of hashing power your never finding a block. As an option you could run a P2Pool node and mine like that. Here is the GitHub link to a popular branch has pretty good instructions. https://github.com/jtoomim/p2pool/tree/rawtx. You will be a node on a distributed pool and earn when a block is hit by the whole pool. Payout is in proportion to you hashing power. Your still sort of solo mining in the sense that your miner could hit a block but you would be sharing with the rest of P2Pool. Same is true with any pool. But here you are running your own node.
