A couple tips: * To look up info about the C++ language and standard libraries, cppreference is fantastic. * The godbolt compiler explorer is very cool for investigating "is this code legal" and "what assembly does this compile to" type questions.

What happened to cppreference.com?
I pushed the alternative implementation to github (https://github.com/cpplearner/stdrev) and made some adjustments to make it work better in some specific cases. It works nicely for me, but I can't guarantee that it doesn't break something.
