Former visa holder looking to return, and I have a few questions
My primary skills revolve around Linux/Docker/Kubernetes, AWS, and automation tools like Gitlab CI, Jenkins, etc. Of course I've picked up a ton of ancillary skills along the way, but these are the core of what I do. So if you do go down that route look at the Kubernetes certs like the CKA, CKAD, and CKS. There are also -JP versions of each of those certs as well, which may be useful in the Japanese market. The CNCF (Cloud Native Computing Foundation) is a great organization to follow in this regard: https://www.cncf.io/certification/training/ - They have other non-Kubernetes certs as well.

From zero to WIP
I currently co-lead the documentation efforts for Kubernetes & LitmusChaos, am a CNCF ambassador, have spoken at global events, and have even co-led the creation & review of the KCNA certification. I intend to continue and plan on writing/speaking more about cloud native & open source. My target is to get myself CKA & CKAD certified by Q1, 2022 & continue exploring other avenues of the projects I can contribute to.

Which is the right curriculum for CKAD?
I'm preparing for the CKAD exam. I am following the https://github.com/cncf/curriculum/blob/master/CKAD_Curriculum_V1.21.pdf curriculum for my preparation. There is however another one https://github.com/cncf/curriculum/blob/master/CKAD-2021_Curriculum_Coming_Q3_2021.pdf.

From zero to WIP
Over and above this, I also got involved in the Release Team shadow program to learn more about the Kubernetes ecosystem from an end-to-end perspective. Of course, during all of this I continued learning (and failing) publicly by speaking at various events globally. This gave me the opportunity to play to my strengths while building muscle for things that I was less skilled in.
