I'm not sure what you mean by "green screen of death", that isn't a common complaint. It could be a cinnamon-screensaver bug. An issue there would probably show up in the file ~/.xsession-errors and could be posted to the bug tracker https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-screensaver/issues

What bug are you referring to? After searching I can only find references to bugs in cinnamon-screensaver and xorg-x11-server that have all been fixed.
