Mongoose VS skynet-cli

I've found myself at this webpage multiple times while trying to minimize the complexity of APIs in my C projects.

My conclusion for now is that C coroutines are something to be left to the implementer. For example: Mongoose (https://github.com/cesanta/mongoose) uses event callbacks to deal with asynchronousness. It is much more pleasant to wrap a library like this in whatever thread/task primitives your system has rather than try to integrate the mythical cross-platform c couroutine.

I remember using mongoose 15 years back. Today i would have considered mongoose(10k+ stars) which is also a mature c/c++ web server[1] if not the licence.

Alternatives at the low to medium level of abstraction include civetweb and mongoose, which have a common ancestor. Both of these appear to be C rather than C++, but seem to be production quality and well-documented. Another C library is cpp-httplib, which is probably too low-level for me.

Since this is only going to be used internally would Mongoose be worth considering?

The language is only part of it. In my opinion, you would learn even more about C by consuming well-known libraries written in C and trying to do something useful with it and complementing that with some books, etc rather than just learning the syntax and semantics of C.

There are tons of useful/fun things you could do with C. Write some desktop apps with GTK, a web server with Mongoose (https://mongoose.ws), etc.

The issue is that siasky.net is a public portal/host and anyone can upload files or websites there. This is not really different from other file or website hosts, but unfortunately the company behind siasky.net doesn't have the resources to keep the domain out of all blocklists because they are still pretty small. Who's maintaining it? I've heard a few people claim this is the fork that's being maintained, but right now moonrider.xyz loads for me and skyrider.hns.siasky.net doesn't, and I can't find any links to a newer GitHub repo for the Skyrider version. The siasky.net domain also sets my "wait, is this just some cryptocurrency nonsense" senses tingling.

Not exactly sure, but if you're willing to put in a little bit of development effort, you should be able to build something on top of https://siasky.net

Hey! Thanks for the immensely detailed feedback :) I will be trying to set up PAR2 and hopefully all goes well. I do however not agree with the IPFS thing as something that should be seen as reliable, as that would only give you one centralized pinner. I think using something such as https://siasky.net will be better, as although the payments for the storage are funded by a centralized party, the data itself is distributed and decentralized. I see IPFS pinners as a single very unreliable point of storage, but maybe these pinning servers are known for being extra reliable ^ it doesn’t hurt to add extra copies, so I might do it regardless, so thanks for reminding me of that!

I will try my best to get some disc burner. Please note that Skynet has 2x or 3x redundancy which is across 20 or 30 different data centres with erasure coding and I think automatic file repairing, Google Drive has redundancy and a very high reliability if my memory serves me right here, and the list goes on. As I use encryption, there are no privacy concerns as I doubt they would try to crack the archives. My password isn’t great, but it’s not worthwhile brute forcing for these files. I already have OneDrive installed, and funnily enough I already have some of my profile pictures on there :D

Keybase 250GB, Skynet 100 GB, then there are probably more that I don’t know about with big free plans. I managed to find Keybase for you! But I can’t speak from personal experience if it’s good or not ^

Skynet - I have not yet used it in production, but have tried it out and it seems to work nicely. The API here looks great. I have questions like how long is the data persisted, and Skynet's interoperability with other protocols.
