Monitoring Django apps
Since Celery tasks are executed outside of the Django context we need to monitor Celery separately from Django. I use Prometheus extensively, so much so that I wrote my own exporter for Celery metrics.

Mail server on own dedicated server, it is good idea?
Incoming mail is simple enough, but SMTP server for outgoing is a potential nightmare. I ran my own SMTP for many years without an issue, then one day without warning I had a lot of outgoing email rejected as spam. An entire block of IP addresses (that happened to include my mail server) appeared on a blacklist. It's just too much hassle managing your way out of this. I switched to using sendgrid, let them deal with the aggravation. I now maintain only incoming email, which I prefer for reasons of privacy and control. This set up is basically problem free (barring issues with users keeping Gb of data in emails, etc.)

My Cookiecutter Django Setup
Add your own names, emails, etc. Personally, I like using SendGrid for email because of its great free tier and ease of use. It's also easily scaled to larger workloads for larger client. Whitenoise is the tool I like using for static file serving.

Our backend is in node.js and we deploy in the AWS ecosystem. As part of our user flow, we use email both for notifications as a response to a user action (transactional) and some custom marketing automation. Sendgrid is our service of choice for those matters.
