I've contributed to rust-analyzer and nushell and had a great experience in both! Tons of open issues with a huge range of difficulties, and the maintainers are really helpful in providing hints to get started.

Lua as a Bash alternative
There is nushell as something more advanced than shell scripts but with the same feel. It has data types other than text, for example numbers, lists, records, tables and closures.
Why use PowerShell when Nushell is available on Linux?
