Show HN: If VS Code had a data-centric IDE sibling, what would that look like?
I think there isn't, and if there is it would be illegal:
> You may not sublicense the Software Code or any use of it
https://github.com/microsoft/azuredatastudio/blob/main/LICEN...
Microsoft has a fork of VS Code called Azure Data Studio. It's made for DB queries and notebooks: https://github.com/Microsoft/azuredatastudio

The implementation of the UK Covid-19 dashboard
Both sides of that argument agree that the right to redistribute is fundamental to FLOSS.
Microsoft is defining their product, which you can't redistribute[0], as "Open Source".

Tell HN: Microsoft forks MIT licensed repo, and changes the copyright to them
Please consider https://github.com/microsoft/azuredatastudio/issues/102#issu...
>SQL Operations Studio was built on the back of many open source projects that all use the MIT License for a reason: it's the right way to keep moving the community forward, empowering your users to do cool stuff and build useful things for the community.
>We're just asking SQL Operations Studio to use the same license that Visual Studio Code does.

How to configure & take print on Linux?
In December 2019, Michael left Apple to start Lakeside Robotics. In September 2020 he teamed up with the OpenPrinting developers to fork Apple CUPS to continue its development. Today Apple CUPS is the version of CUPS that is provided with macOS® and iOS® while OpenPrinting CUPS is the version of CUPS being further developed by OpenPrinting for all operating systems.

M1 GPU driver passes >99% of the dEQP-GLES2 compliance tests.
This isn’t entirely true. There’s Apple CUPS (which is now focused on macOS/iOS) and OpenPrinting CUPS, which is used by Linux/other systems.

Today I learned that the Free Software Movement was ignited by a jammed Xerox laser printer
Has that improved/changed since IPP Everywhere became a thing & CUPS moved to that?

Merits of a "Just Works" distro (A Rant)
Consider visiting the OpenPrinting CUPS repository, clicking Report a Bug and describing your issue.

Average FOSS enjoyer - no proprietary stuff found here
Not anymore. The project was forked in september 2020. The apple version seems to be abandoned since october 2021 while https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups is actively developed

"We made an open source app that tells you the time so we are the leaders in open source"
I thought that the original CUPS author Michael R Sweet had started something new from scratch but I was misremembering. They forked the Apple CUPS tree. https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups

Tell HN: Microsoft forks MIT licensed repo, and changes the copyright to them
Apparently that's a commit made by a human re-assigning copyright of a forked FOSS project [0], presumably without attribution of the original authors.
I created an issue in the original cups repo: https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/issues/315
