How to use ACM public certificate for Nginx ingress controller?
You can install the AWS Load Balancer Controller, and then create an "Ingress" when you install your Nginx Ingress controller, possible with some necessary annotations.

Ingress controller confusion
Yes. Google's ingress controller talks to the GCP API and spins up an HTTP LB for you. The AWS LB Controller handles provisioning ALB's for you. And ... I guess other clouds exist too but these are the ones I am familiar with.

Is my plan to switch from docker compose / machine to k8s okay?
Thanks, I managed to set it up with terraform via the Helm Chart. While it does remove the hassle of provisioning the load balancer, it does not offer rewrites out of the box like nginx (https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/aws-load-balancer-controller/issues/835). I’ll have to implement some kind of reverse proxy just to handle this issue

Setup Rancher on EKS + ALB
Rancher documentation is using nginx-ingress-controller and only creates Classic Load Balancer or Network Load Balancer. We will use AWS Load Balancer Controller to create ALB for our Rancher.
