Also https://github.com/rNeomy/auto-tab-discard, which despite the name, doesn’t close tabs, it just unloads them from memory.
Is there any addon that suspends/ hibernates tabs and restores them back when required like in Chromium based browsers there's "the great suspender" or "tiny suspender" and keeps a copy of tabs suspended as backup file on device?

I'm using Auto Tab Discard for very fine control but it is not needed most of the time. FF does this automatically now via Tab Unloading

Overcoming Tab Overload

Thanks for your reply. It's good to hear that Tabs Outliner is a favorite for other power users out there. Interesting that you had a great synergy between it and The Great Suspender. I myself hadn't ever used The Great Suspender before hearing about it's recent demise. It sounded pretty useful, and upon looking for alternatives, I discovered the cross-browser extention Auto Tab Discard. FYI: https://github.com/rNeomy/auto-tab-discard
Ask HN: Why is Chrome so awful on OS X?
2 projects | news.ycombinator.com | 19 Apr 2021
I'd call myself a power user when it comes to browsers and tabs.
I had exactly the same thoughts a few months ago, but having 500+ tabs open and getting a few system freezes for a few seconds I thought that's how it is. Even though I'm running it on a 2019 Pro with 16 GB.
But then I gave Firefox a new shot and it's amazing. I'm currently sitting at 547 tabs and I can even play YouTube videos via the picture in picture mode without any problems while building an Docker image.
You should definitely use an addon for discarding tabs. I'm currently using "Auto Tab Discord" which is kinda the same what "The Great Suspender" was. Additionally I can recommend "Tab Session Manager" if you're having an addition to tabs like me. Both are available for Chrome and Firefox.
Too many chrome tabs....

It can be controlled via the extension policy stuff in the admin console, here's the schema file.
I no longer trust The Great Suspender

I recently switched to Auto Tab Discard. It uses the browser's built-in tab suspending. It doesn't have all the features of TGS, though.

For stuff like that where you don't need to read window properties, I would use xdotool: https://github.com/jordansissel/xdotool
Is it possible to set keyboard shortcuts to teleport to desktops beyond the first four?
2 projects | reddit.com/r/gnome | 10 Jun 2022
I think, you can create your own shortcut, which will point to some custom script you'll write, which in its own turn will trigger the same hotkey you want to duplicate (the script will probably utilise xdotool or something similar).
How to get window title on Linux? (Ubuntu/Xlib)
2 projects | reddit.com/r/csharp | 23 May 2022
I am trying to programmatically obtain a title of a process window I have PID of in Ubuntu with default configuration, or a clean Ubuntu installation if you will. I know this is possible on Linux, as I managed to get that information with xdotool, however I am trying to find a way to perform this task without an external program. That tool relies on xlib, a C solution for window management. I found an incomplete wrapper of it called X11.net and attempted to essentially translate this code to C# using it, resulting in the following:
Is there a way to see your webpage while your edit it?

It's really not the greatest experience, but you can combine a Vim mapping and some automation software (xdotool in this example) that presses F5 in your browser.

> I shouldn't need to download an app to a smartphone for something that I exclusively intend to use on a desktop.
I see where you're coming from here and mostly agree. However, I will say that as someone who already had the Cash App installed the process was pretty seamless. The only major item I would change is that it would be nice to have some way to import a CSV or XLS file (or even JSON) for the capital gains forms. They offer an online spreadsheet but you still have to fill out each cell individually. If you have a few dozen trades (or more) to report it gets rather tiresome and could even be a bit error-prone.
I suppose I could have scripted the data entry with keyboard macros (via xdotool), but for something I only do once per year it probably wouldn't be worthwhile… and the interface could be different next year.
StreamDeck like app for an Android device with Pop OS?
3 projects | reddit.com/r/linuxquestions | 25 Feb 2022
On Pop, install an ssh-server and activate it. Also install xdotool. (I don't use Pop so I don't know the exact commands here but if you google it I'm sure you'll find them.)
What are some of your self made scripts that you're proud of

Programatically disable compositor. The call I found online never worked for me, so xdotool to the rescue. Script. Writing this comment, I checked again and the call is working now(qdbus org.kde.KWin /Compositor suspend). Kudos to KDE team. I commented the line with xdotool I used to use.
xdotool key won't work with sxhkd
4 projects | reddit.com/r/archlinux | 5 Feb 2022
I am trying to find an alternative to AutoKey for keyboard macros. I've seen some suggest sxhkd combined with xdotool, which is what I'm trying here. I want to implement macros whereby when I press alt + j,i,k,l it simulates left,up,down, right arrow keys respectfully. I have the contents of ~/.config/sxhkd/sxhkdrc as:
What tools / utilities have you written that you use regularly?
42 projects | reddit.com/r/commandline | 17 Sep 2021
a dumb utility that scripts xdotool. I position the mouse in location A, launch my script with dmenu, enter a number N, move my mouse to location B, and hit Enter. It then clicks on location A, moves to location B and clicks there, and does it N times. It saves me hours of tedious clicking across several applications.
What are some alternatives?

AutoKey - AutoKey, a desktop automation utility for Linux and X11.
