Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

The KDE desktop gets an overhaul with Plasma 6
I would suggest that nearly every person on this website is a developer. Both C and C++ let you shoot yourself in the foot quite easily, but at least C++ has RAII.
If you're referring to Rust, it's just not there yet for anything serious: https://areweguiyet.com/

Ask HN: Rust Viable for Data Analytics?
I normally use python to do some quick data analysis, with pandas/polars/pyspark/...
But I've started to use rust more and more in the last few weeks and really start to like it.
Does anyone have experience doing data analysis with rust, and would you recommend it over python?
And are there any resources like https://areweguiyet.com/ but for data analysis?

On inheritance and why it's good Rust doesn't have it
You still haven't said anything about why those existing frameworks don't count. Again, they are used in production and do exactly what a gui framework is supposed to do. Sure they may not have all the features of the frameworks that have existed a decade before rust even existed but the issue is time not rust itself. They very clearly can be used to build complex UI without inheritance. Since you mentioned it, you should probably actually look at it https://areweguiyet.com/ the page clearly says that GUI frameworks do exist in rust.

BeeWare Toga v0.4.0 – A Python native, OS native GUI toolkit
The web site https://areweguiyet.com/ has a list of GUI libraries for Rust.
I haven’t tried any yet as I lack the time, but it can be a good starting point.
Iced and Slint where interesting when I looked at that, and Slint may be done by former Qt developers.

Learn graphics for theoretical gui with rust
I also hope that it is consistent with the goals mentioned at https://areweguiyet.com/

- Is it possible to build a gui which is both cross compatible and native?

Can someone explain in layman's terms what is the deal with the GUI Framework for Rust?
There is research being done, people are working on architectures based on the ELM architecture (check areweguiyet.com for more) and reactive ones, but I haven't had a very good experience out of them yet.

The Bun Shell
Many mobile apps are written in JS/TS with React Native.
Linux desktop environments like Cinnamon [1] also use JavaScript for the UI. Linux Mint with Cinnamon is invariably among the top 3 Linux desktop distributions (on distrowatch [2]).
If anything, stats probably don't accurately capture how ubiquitous JS is.

Lobotomizing Gnome
I agree that there is a balance between customization and "cleanness" in design and implementation.
However, I think the GNOME 3 and 4 designers went too far and alienated many users:

https://medium.com/@fulalas/gnome-42-the-nonsense-continues-...

https://linuxreviews.org/GNOME_Developers_have_Made_Their_Mo...
https://www.osnews.com/story/133955/gnome-to-prevent-theming...
When a designer's "coherent vision" eclipses the needs of the software's users then users get frustrated and either fork the project or go to another project. MATE (https://mate-desktop.org/), Cinnamon (https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon), and Unity (https://unityd.org/) exist largely because of how far the GNOME 3 designers went and how they were not willing to compromise their "coherent vision":

Wayland transition attempt, 2023 edition
Mind you, it's much easier to crash a Wayland compositor than an X11 window manager because so much more has to be done in the compositor process; Cinnamon devs mentioned this flaw as a major reason they won't support Wayland yet, because if a panel widget crashes, it will also crash the entire desktop.

F38 (Cinnamon): mouse cursor not stopping at right edge of screen on HDMI tv
I tried a few searches through open cinnamon issues but nothing really stood out yet OTOH, I know some of the recent changes to Nemo/Cinnamon had caused issues which I've run into myself in F37 (such as the new themes, some Nemo drag-and-drop issues, and another issue with Nemo's input focus when clicking the toolbar button to a new folder while you are renaming a file) so still plausible this could be a Cinnamon-specific bug.

Linux Mint should have a Power Profile option
I also think that this could be a Cinnamon feature, a nice UI app that could use TLP as backend. This could be a feature request in the Cinnamon github and not a reddit post.
