The 2024 Web Hosting Report
Today, this ecosystem is going strong with new providers like Hasura, AppWrite and Supabase powering millions of projects. There are a few reasons people choose this style of hosting, especially if they are more comfortable with frontend development. BaaS lets them set up a database in a secure way, expose some business logic on top of the data, and connect via a dev-friendly SDK from their app or website code to save data easily. These modern tools build a blend of managed database with curated plugins such as authentication, great admin dashboards, and function as a service type capability - all in one package, and often offered as a integrated hosted service.

An intro to Appwrite | Building a To-do list with SvelteKit
A to-do list is the playground for experimenting with a new technology, right? It ain't much but it allows you not only to understand the basics but also to get familiar with the docs for any extra π« dazzle π« that you may want to add. And that's exactly what we'll do with Appwrite!

Does an open source 'backend platform' exist for dotnet?
Yeah, I knew of those, I think that's discussed often enough on the dotnet subs. Ory and Zitadel I knew too, but those provide just one thing, and are not native to dotnet. Altough I'll admit, stuff like nhost seem native to typescript but uses go projects under the covers as well.

Is there smth like firebase on-prem?
You can use Nhost (100% open source): https://github.com/nhost/nhost/tree/main/examples/docker-compose

Building FinSaver for Hack-R-Play π
Another reason for me to eagerly participate in this hackathon was to get started with nhost. I must applaud their commendable documentation. It was butter smooth for me to get started and immediately feel confident about how I wanted to structure the backend for my application. The option of providing custom hooks for the NextJS application is the cherry on the cake moment for me π. Additionally, the integration with Hasura console made it very easy for me to work with GraphQL API. Understanding user roles and permissions was something new that I learnt. I was able to customize authorization for a different set of users based on their roles.
