10 Throwaway Email Generators and Why You Need One In 2021 - Guide

For those I use simplelogin.io. You use their domains or port your own domain name over and issue more permanent (but still random) emails.
Why 2FA is very important.

I use aliases for 99% of my accounts. In case someone is interested, examples of companies that do this are SimpleLogin, AnonAddy, and Fastmail (integrated into 1Password). There are others but these are the top ones that come to mind.

You could try SimpleLogin or AnonAddy for email aliases.
Getting rid of spam emails

Get yourself a Simplelogin. Free version is very feature rich. Has iOS/Android app, Firefox extension and the regular web. This way you get randomized email addresses that you can enable/disable/terminate with a couple clicks. Forward to your old email or a new one. Free.
Perhaps an odd question but what do you use Protonmail for? I'm stuck between wanting privacy but not having a nagging concern that, since Proton is smaller-time than companies like Google, I don't want important accounts linked to an email that might one day not exist because the company closes

I highly recommend an aliasing service, another option to consider is SimpleLogin. you can check both of them and see what's best for you.
What are your thoughts on other providers? Specifically Ctemplar and Protonmail?

You should sign up for a private email service that allows you to create fake aliases that you can turn on and off to prevent things like this in the future. I built one called Telios, but there are others like Anon Addy and Simple Login.

Oh sorry it's not self-hosted, it's a SaaS email service, not a software offering. I haven't run my own mail service in years, but I hear good things about mailcow and mail-in-a-box if you're brave enough to take it on.

Suggestion about selfhosting Gmail backup + Webclient
3 projects | reddit.com/r/selfhosted | 30 Sep 2021
I haven't tried it but extensively researched and it looks like this will be my way to de-google: - Mailcow dockerized - SoGo Frontend - Dovecot - Full-Text-Search - Ready for 100k + Emails - For GMail, add the getmail extension: - will pull email regularly, and at the time when you check mail - will remove email from gmail after a certain time (e.g. 2 days) - see discussion here - additional considerations: - I can merge all my email into a single inbox - I can keep sending through multiple out-boxes (e.g. gmail) - this will run internally, so if not at home, I can either connect via vpn or check mail at google, where it is still available - entirely flexible: I can add or remove external email providers as needed, on client computers, I only add a single email provider (my internal one)

For the activist/whistleblower threat model I'd recommend Disroot because they're located outside of Five Eyes and have a good history. You can also self host with Mailcow which I'd also recommend this route when you do not trust third party service.
