10 Throwaway Email Generators and Why You Need One In 2021 - Guide

For those I use simplelogin.io. You use their domains or port your own domain name over and issue more permanent (but still random) emails.
Why 2FA is very important.

I use aliases for 99% of my accounts. In case someone is interested, examples of companies that do this are SimpleLogin, AnonAddy, and Fastmail (integrated into 1Password). There are others but these are the top ones that come to mind.

You could try SimpleLogin or AnonAddy for email aliases.
Getting rid of spam emails

Get yourself a Simplelogin. Free version is very feature rich. Has iOS/Android app, Firefox extension and the regular web. This way you get randomized email addresses that you can enable/disable/terminate with a couple clicks. Forward to your old email or a new one. Free.
Perhaps an odd question but what do you use Protonmail for? I'm stuck between wanting privacy but not having a nagging concern that, since Proton is smaller-time than companies like Google, I don't want important accounts linked to an email that might one day not exist because the company closes

I highly recommend an aliasing service, another option to consider is SimpleLogin. you can check both of them and see what's best for you.
What are your thoughts on other providers? Specifically Ctemplar and Protonmail?

Use my email? I'll use your points.

You should sign up for a private email service that allows you to create fake aliases that you can turn on and off to prevent things like this in the future. I built one called Telios, but there are others like Anon Addy and Simple Login.

Is reddit shadow-censoring content posted from Tor?

FWIW they have open-sourced the web client, so there's that. And the stand-alone Android and iOS clients would be harder to modify OTA, especially if you disable automatic updates.

> Truly secure entity just wouldn't have private keys on a server at all.
They don't. They have your encrypted private key, but there's no need to keep that secret. (The decryption key is derived from your password, so the password needs to be strong and secret.)
> Such agency can force PM to modify login process to derive password from submitted form, or to just switch private keys for non-encrypred ones, because the user won't even notice it.
It's not uncommon for services like this to offer a downloadable version of the web client so you can pin a version and audit the code as needed. I think maybe https://github.com/ProtonMail/WebClient is that for ProtonMail? If so, you should be able to verify that code and then use that. The fact that an encrypted copy of your private key will live on ProtonMail's servers shouldn't bother you.
The new ProtonMail has passed its independent security audit

> a new protocol that can degrade gracefully
Does Autocrypt meet that definition?
Sadly, for the last 3 years, ProtonMail has resisted implementing it (unlike Posteo, for example), using FUD tactics to justify themselves:
