FFmpeg Lands AVIF Muxer For This Image Format Based On AV1
If you want to do lossless yuv420 in a jxl bitstream, you'll need a custom encoder atm. If you want to try it, you could take an old libjxl where this functionality was experimentally supported, see e.g. https://github.com/libjxl/libjxl/pull/25.

What is JPEG XL?
Currently, JPEG XL can be enabled in Chromium, Firefox, and Opera browsers, but has no other browser support. JPEG XL is supposed to remain royalty free. You can grab the encoder and decoder off Github and chat with other JPEG XL enthusiasts on Reddit and Discord. You can install JPEG XL utilities on Mac using homebrew and on Windows. Tools like GIMP and ImageMagick are beginning to support it.
- FFmpeg now supports JPEG XL, should be available in the next release.

QOI – The Quite OK Image Format

It should be noted that it "can be", not it always is. The implementation in question [1] is currently experimental and not what you get from cjxl. In any case it is worth noting that QOI inspired both FPNG and FJXL.
