ProtonVPN - Secure and Free VPN (version 184.108.40.206): Free Swiss VPN with advanced security and privacy features.
Why are my ProtonVPN & Play Store apps displaying v220.127.116.11, while the Firefox webpage Play Store app displays the latest (?) v18.104.22.168 released on 5/10 - when today is 7/10?

Latest Version of ProtonVPN not on F-Droid?
Anyway, I looked into it and an F-Droid volunteer said what the problem is (there was a binary file, not source code, present in the GitHub repository; this binary file can't be audited so it's against F-Droid policies), and a ProtonVPN developer said it'd be fixed by the next release: https://github.com/ProtonVPN/android-app/issues/76
If having the latest version is a must then you can download the .apk from the ProtonVPN GitHub: https://github.com/ProtonVPN/android-app/releases . That of course doesn't get automatically updated.

Terminating the VPN on your firewall is usually the simplest thing, to do, but it's not required. I believe you should be able to set up something like Algo VPN and configure the Ubiquiti gear to connect to it.
Weird wireguard behavior.
1 project | reddit.com/r/WireGuard | 21 Oct 2021
Hello, I possess a weird situation regarding my wireguard VPN server. I have installed a wireguard server on AWS using Algo project and it was working fine for around 5 months but suddenly the VPN clients stopped working with 95% of the clients. Now i did my sysops work from debugging and troubleshooting and recreating a new instance but with no luck and checked also the AWS side and they confirmed there is no issue from their side. I have tried another wireguard service which is VPNhack and the serviceworked fine with my PC which is weird as they use the same protocol as i do. Now i have only one reason for this issue it is the ISP blocking the wireguard traffic which is most likely the reason as our country (Egypt) has a history in DPI and cyber censorship. So my question is, how can i bypass the ISP blocking? Thanks.
Will paid VPN solve my problem?

Not a regular paid VPN, but a self-hosted VPN. Look at algo.
What's the deal with all the news stories telling me to ditch my VPN?

The article OP linked points out another (much more difficult) option: Run your own VPN. Ideally on a rapsberrypi in your house or something, rather than a server in AWS.

You can make your own free VPN! https://github.com/trailofbits/algo It'll take about an hour, but I think it's worth it.

FWIW, Algo does the same thing as Streisand but with fewer features and knobs (which, in a VPN server, is a feature in its own right).
