Can you tell me about games that are only published on their own websites?
Marathon. Bungie doesn't sell the game anymore, but they did upload it to the internet. I linked to Aleph One Sourceport instead though since the original doesn't work on Windows natively.

Marathon multiplayer has always been a blast. Here’s a round of King of the Hill from a few days ago, made possible with the Aleph One engine
M1A1 is outdated, just download Marathon 1 here and you'll be good.

Marathon has been announced by Bungie
