Installed Ubuntu 23.04 on my m15. First release of ubuntu where everything worked out the box. Sleeping, external monitor, all working as expected.

Have you tried running OpenRGB as root without secureboot enabled? Otherwise there's also AlienFX Lite but the last update was on 18 Jan 2017 so I can't say anything about compatability.
