WIFI-84 VS esp_wifi_repeater

Here is a project on github i just found https://github.com/ajcord/WIFI-84 which seems to have the same goal as you. In the project a esp8266 ist used, which is the same module as on the Wemos D1. But seems not like an easy thing todo, but with help of the schematic you could make it work. Also the project seems to be not maintained anymore... Good Luck!

esp32s and esp8266s are my favorite pieces of hardware... for $2 you can setup a wifi access point

I'm trying to set up a wifi repeater using the binaries from https://github.com/martin-ger/esp_wifi_repeater. Flashing the software goes fine. Connects to internet fine. I set up the AP with a new name and password. Connecting to it seems fine but then it shows as connected, no internet. Any ideas?

I've never done an outdoor project but you'll need some waterproof strips and a sealed container for the mcu. You can buy waterproof strips in different led densities and styles from btf lighting in amazon and aliexpress, they are completely enclosed in a flexible plastic pipe (or hose?). Be careful with your maximum brightness since the leds can't dissipate as much heat. If they stay on during daylight you might lose many pixels. For the mcu I would use a small food container to which you can add extra waterproofing. My mum has a portable WiFi device which is most time in her room, so the WiFi doesn't get to the living room and that's a problem but I love to solve problems so i did some googling and I found a GitHub repository for an ESP8266 repeater by martin-ger,the repo had a binary file for the repeater so I just flashed it into my esp8266 using esptool and it worked like magic.
