Ready to move music off of Plex โ recommendations?
Haven't tried it myself but Volumio looks like a nice option.
-
Spotify Box
For anyone else who wants to do this, just set up the absolutely amazing Volumio on your RPi or any other computer.
The web app is great for use in your house, the Spotify plugin is first class - it's supported as a target in your Spotify app, or you can browse straight from the webapp, which means even a guest on your wifi can easily pop on and help pick the music.

Any other things you guys use your EeePc for?
I use mine for streaming internet radio to FM radio (via a short-range FM transmitter plugged into the headphone socket) when I'm gardening. I was also thinking of running PiHole on it and/or as a music server with something like Volumio.

Yet Another Audio Rig v.5 | My CM4 audio/3D modeling project.
I have fully working MoOde and current RaspberryPi OS but plan on testing Volumio soon. I have tried current Ubuntu but haven't got the screen working yet.

What kind of applications are missing from the Linux ecosystem?
I saw https://github.com/DeaDBeeF-Player/deadbeef recommended as foobar2000 alternative. I only use the most basic features, so this is indeed as good as foobar experience for me.
this was my personal 'want' from deadbeef that felt a little awkward https://github.com/DeaDBeeF-Player/deadbeef/issues/2365 (recently added and recently played playlists). it may be doable with plugins or some shell scripting perhaps

When switching to Linux, what were some programs that you had to stop using because they weren't supported on Linux?
Deadbeef, maybe? This one is the most similar to foobar2k from what I tried (yeah I miss it too).

DeaDBeeF is the closest.

DeaDBeeF 1.9.0 released
Nah. They were removed and are no longer found in the repository's locale directory.

There seems to be no Linux music player that supports reading and writing to the POPM rating tag, and making smart playlists based on both those ratings and other playlists. Or, "I really freaking miss MusicBee, man"
DeadBeef - Only possible with a plugin that is not obvious to a new user and easily misable

Volumio โ The Audiophile Music Player
So close! I just built it from source and had a look at it. I've been looking for years to find a proper Foobar2000 replacement for Linux. This one is tantalizingly close, with the design mode and all. But it lacks the one thing that I have yet to find in any other audio player than Foobar2000: the music library tree view with its searching, sorting, and filtering capabilities - especially the ability to search or filter on any tag, including user-defined ones.
There's a "playlist browser" widget, but it's only for playlists.
If you build it from source, aside from the usual "which dev libraries do I need" dance to enable features and plugins, you also need to install clang and libdispatch-dev. Deadbeef doesn't support gcc [0].

VideoLAN is 20 years old!
When I moved to Linux, I was installed Wine just for foobar2000, but moved to https://github.com/DeaDBeeF-Player/deadbeef when I found it.
