Block Adware and Malware with /etc/hosts

Don't forget about hosts.deny (but you probably need it at your router if you are behind one).

Anything to block trackers from desktop apps?
You might also look into HOSTS file editors and lists of servers to block. HOSTS is a single file you can edit on a Windows machine using a standard text editor. I used to follow this closely so I don't have a recommendation on which list to use, but here's a possible starting point: https://github.com/Ultimate-Hosts-Blacklist/Ultimate.Hosts.Blacklist

How to add custom blocklist?
I think the main source I use that doesn't seem to be in rethinkDNS is the Ultimate Hosts Blacklist's hosts and/or hosts.deny files.

Adblock from MX Linux
So it presumably has the same function as a hosts file. You can find examples like this which is portable to any Linux (or Windows) installation.

Goodbye chrome, hello Opera Gx, Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Brave!
One thing I can suggest that will ALWAYS work is blocking known ad websites on host file level: https://github.com/Ultimate-Hosts-Blacklist/Ultimate.Hosts.Blacklist (or equivalent, there's a lot of resources for it if you look it up)

what happened to Energized ultimate?
their latest commit emptied the README.md file from their official repo. See https://github.com/EnergizedProtection/block/commit/8bc981b5b1e813ab07ea80cbb08e4b42643d9b6e

their website is currently a blank page. See https://energized.pro

Use uBlock Origin to assist yourself in your glorious endeavors this NNN
The most obvious thing you can do is to use a custom filter. There are several great filterlists out there but I know most of them are just not enough for some of you degenerates out there who have went a bit too deep in the spicy rabbit hole. One of the best filterlists you can use is by the Energized Protection. Here's the direct link to Energized Porn filter in adblock format. Just copy and paste this in Filter lists > Custom > Import, click 'Apply Changes', refresh the page and click 'Update now'.
- Do you know of any "block lists" in the "rpz" format?
- YSK that you can block u/RealTacoBell to remove the Pete Davidson eating a taco ads

I'm not worried about manifest v3. hblock is way better than most ad blockers because it uses your hosts file to work. In other words, it's not constantly running in the background. Web sites can't detect it and it works any browser. It's worth mentioning the equivalent on Android is AdAway.
Same concept, but I personally like to use this https://energized.pro/

Is there an OPNsense plugin or service that can block ads like pi-hole?
This is what I did as well, I added the Energized.pro Ultimate list URL to the blocklist section of Unbound and it worked like a charm.
