I want to learn how to data mine games I enjoy, such as Animal Jam Classic, but I’m not sure where to start.
If you're lucky, the developers will have used a standard format to store their assets and you can just use an existing asset extractor to do the dirty work for you: Unreal, Unity, and Flash (.swf) are some of the most popular ones.

3D models
There are posts about getting models somewhat on the regular, any amount of searching nets you the answer, ironically some of them by me. Get umodel and simply overwrite the auto game detection to smite and point the game path to wherever you have smite installed "SMITE\BattleGame\CookedPCConsole". From there just select whichever gods files you are looking for, beware that the upks only contain a extremely low quality dummy texture.

Where can I found Smite assets ?
You gonna have to extract them yourself with umodel. Open the program, select to overwrite game detection setting the engine to unreal 3 and smite from the game list. The game file path is the CookedPCConsole folder wherever you have smite installed. (example F:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\SMITE\BattleGame\CookedPCConsole)

I extract models and textures from Deadbydaylight and Deep Rock Galatic using UE Viewer and import them using this Add-on.

Grunt Killer
I extract the models from the game with UE Viewer, and use this add-on to import them into Blender. The Textures for the most part (the tattoos are also extracted and for some materials like the skin I just use shaders) are painted and UV edited by me.

Here's a script for importing Deus Ex level textures into Blender
1: You must already have the DX1 textures in a loose file format recognized by Blender (.png, .dds, .tga, ect.). They need to otherwise retain their original names. The textures can be acquired via UModel/UE Viewer. New Vision textures will work also.

No Unreal Plugin please help
I used the version on Github, unzip it and put it in C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.0\Engine\Plugins\Runtime or on Mac: /Applications/Epic Games/UE_5.0/Engine/Plugins/Runtime. In Houdini Engine settings I set the session type to TCP Socket and set the Houdini Executable to Houdini Indie (not sure this was necessary). I wasn't able to create a reliable connection to Houdini - it would connect but after a while it would disconnect and I wasn't able to reconnect again. So what I did was start Houdini Indie and went to Windows > Houdini Engine Session Sync, set the drop down to TCP Port and press Start and then in Houdini Engine, create a session. Session sync is an extra feature that I didn't make use of but I couldn't find another way to restart the Houdini server.

UE5.1 "Always load last project on startup" glitch, unable to load Unreal Engine due to plugin I can't install, locked out of Unreal Engine
Just installed UE5.1 and converted my current project. Problem is, it relies on the HoudiniEngine plugin which I can't seem to install on UE5.1. This plugin works fine under 5.0, I've followed the install steps on their Github page by copying the HoudiniEngine directory to D:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.1\Engine\Plugins\HoudiniEngine, but UE5.1 keeps telling me "Houdini Engine failed to load", then closes.
