My sense is that they're moving away from their own apps, based on the (poor and sporadic, tbh) communication from the dev team. I think the clearest indication I got was in this issue on github where the CTO states the documents, tasks and calendar apps that were largely baked in were going the way of the dodo.

Thanks for sharing this. I was actually looking for this type of content as I am considering opening my own startup in the near future. I would suggest though the addition of Twake to the list. I stumpled upon it just yesterday. It is open source, GDPR compliant, has a free tier, can be self-hosted and has many useful features.

I haven't tried this yet but it looks like a promising alternative for Nextcloud with a heavy focus on team and group share. It has calendars, task lists, a shared drive, and even a chat setup if you need it: https://twake.app/

If you aren't super technical please please go for the all-in-one. The manual docker image is super complicated for an unexperienced user. I'm super well at home in Linux and command lines and I wouldn't even CONSIDER doing it the manual way. The AIO is hard enough, and orders of magnitude simpler.
