Tray-Icons-Reloaded
- Let's talk about tray icons.
-
Whats your favorite gnome customization setup?
Tray Icons Reloaded
-
Tray icons missing
"It only works with Xorg and XWayland."
-
System tray icons in dropdown menu (See comment)
I don't know if there's an extension that works on all the icons, but if you're on Xorg, the Tray Icons Reloaded extension has a feature where it collapses app indicators into a … button. So your Discord and Slack icons are hidden, but your wifi status is still viable.

How to theme Tray icons properly?
I use https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/2890/tray-icons-reloaded/ and put the limit to one, then I don't see any icons except three dots which then shows my icons when I click on it in an overflow, like https://github.com/MartinPL/Tray-Icons-Reloaded/blob/master/.github/overflow.png

Ask HN: What's your Linux window manager and/or desktop environment?
- Tray Icons Reloaded: https://github.com/MartinPL/Tray-Icons-Reloaded
I also change a few things using GNOME Tweaks; namely setting the application theme to Orchis-grey-dark-compact (https://github.com/vinceliuice/Orchis-theme), icon theme to Flatery-Dark (https://github.com/cbrnix/Flatery) and system font to Inter (https://rsms.me/inter/).
I've been using this setup for quite a while and I've been very happy with my computing experience, both in terms of aesthetics and overall UX. I tried tiling WMs for a while (first KWin and then i3 / Sway) but I found that I'm just a messy person who tends to be more productive with a floating WM.

Is there a gnome extension that gives me a "submenu" for the icons up here? Like in windows where i can put some of these appindicators behind a single button that hides them?
I think the extension you want is Tray Icons: Reloaded. Have a look at its "overflow mode".
- Is there something similar for ubuntu to hide menu bar icons just like Bartender for MacOS
- No tray icons extension on Fedora 34 Gnome 40
- Bug in zoom video calling software in fedora 33.

Applications minimizing to the dock are glitched?
Belongs and will get better answered here https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock
- Why is there a 1 on the files app/how do I clear it?
-
Evolution icon showing 1 unread mail, but there are none

How often does it usually take for Fedora to update dash to dock in new versions?
As for extensions from gnome.org, it might work better sometimes, it may be worse. In the past, I'd tried to backport patches for new GNOME release support even before it was officially released. Eg. recently, there was some unfortunate breakage that wasn't pulled into the Fedora repositories https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues/1935
- Super + number key to activate/minimize window
- Gnome (43.2) search recognizes the first character twice?
- Typing the first letter in GNOME search duplicates it for some reason (GNOME 43.2, openSUSE Tumbleweed 20230119)
-
Hello, is there something permanently broken with Dash to dock?
Manjaro does not develop Dash to Dock. Have you searched the upstream issues to see if anyone else is having the same problem?
- Win + key results in letter being doubled. Any idea why? Arch + Gnome 43
- Xorg only, typing into the search bar registers the first character twice
What are some alternatives?
gnome-shell-extension-appindicator - Adds KStatusNotifierItem support to the Shell
dash-to-panel - An icon taskbar for the Gnome Shell. This extension moves the dash into the gnome main panel so that the application launchers and system tray are combined into a single panel, similar to that found in KDE Plasma and Windows 7+. A separate dock is no longer needed for easy access to running and favorited applications.
Hardcode-Tray - Fixes Hardcoded tray icons in Linux
blur-my-shell - Extension that adds a blur look to different parts of the GNOME Shell, including the top panel, dash and overview
gnome-runcat - 😼 The cat tells you the CPU usage by running speed
dash-to-panel - An icon taskbar for the Gnome Shell. This extension moves the dash into the gnome main panel so that the application launchers and system tray are combined into a single panel, similar to that found in KDE Plasma and Windows 7+. materia-theme - A Material Design theme for GNOME/GTK based desktop environments
cpupower - Manage the frequency scaling driver of your CPU (Intel Core and AMD Ryzen processors supported)
Orchis-theme - Orchis is a [Material Design](https://material.io) theme for GNOME/GTK based desktop environments.
alphabetical-grid-extension - Alphabetically order GNOME's app grid and folders
vertical-overview - Gnome has had vertically stacked workspaces for a long time. The Gnome 40 update unfortunately made the switch to a horizontal layout. A choice that many Gnome users disagree with. This extension completely replaces the new Gnome overview with something that resembles the old style.
