Yt-Dlp Commands: The Complete Tutorial for Beginners
```
Hopefully that saves someone some extra googling.
For more hardcore automated archival, I do this on linux (which doesn't have the character length issues) and I'd recommend looking at the following for inspiration
- https://github.com/TheFrenchGhosty/TheFrenchGhostys-Ultimate... (Supports sponsorblock, and it turns out truly finding the best quality is pretty complex)
- https://github.com/dmn001/youtube_channel_archiver (A .conf file is very nice to use.)
Format code for browser playback compatibility
I am trying to play some videos downloaded with yt-dlp on my local web server. However, because of the codecs my current format code chooses when downloading I have noticed a number of videos will not play within in a web browser. My current format code is based on TheFrenchGhosty's youtube-dl script collection which chooses codecs for quality at the cost of compatibility.
- Best YouTube Downloader?
Noobie needs help making a config file for yt-dlp
Note that this option is somewhat broken. At least it was for years. For this reason, there are extra scripts that try to grab the actual best video + audio like https://github.com/TheFrenchGhosty/TheFrenchGhostys-Ultimate-YouTube-DL-Scripts-Collection
- Best ~16TB drives for a storage server?
Youtube-dl Hosting Ban Paves the Way to Privatized Censorship
If you want to do complicated bullshit, like setting up automated downloading of channels for archiving, then I recommend this: https://github.com/TheFrenchGhosty/TheFrenchGhostys-Ultimate-YouTube-DL-Scripts-Collection : Initially might seem confusing, this is a good set of scripts for looking at how yt-dlp is "supposed" to be set up script-wise. Good for manually messing with things and setting up a cron job to run. These scripts will assist in downloading more than just the video, like thumbnails and metadata, and comments.
- I am genuinely terrified of the Internet Archive closing down.
-
Stop using youtube-dl and use yt-dlp instead.
yt-dlp also scripts SO nicely. Take a look at this.
PinePhone review after a month of daily driving
Yes. Even without enabling root, you can install Termux[1] and have a full Linux cli environment with ssh.
> don't understand not more people want to access their DCIM folder via sshfs
I agree. I sync my camera folder with Syncthing[1], so as soon as I take a photo it is available on my laptop.
A standalone zero-dependency Lisp for Linux
With this, I was able to cross compile lone for x86_64 from within the Termux environment of my aarch64 smartphone. All I had to do was obtain the Linux user space API headers for x86_64.
I made a Termux package request for multiplatform Linux UAPI headers specifically so I could cross compile lone but unfortunately it was rejected.
Why SQLite Does Not Use Git
I wonder how far you could get with the git client in termux. I got vim running at one point.
